"Carving Out Ideas"
Jennifer Harper
ART EXHIBITION
September 1-30, 2018
This time in life, I make what intrigues me enough to see it through to the press. Prints take on a life of their own and many changes occur throughout the process of carving and printing. The constant surprise is what keeps me going, along with the people that share my presses. Harper Printmaking studio is open to the community and we have Open Press Group meetings a few times each week. Seeing everyone open to the same element of surprise makes it very worthwhile for all of us.

Exhibit Opening
Saturday, September 1st
Mackay Gallery 4-7pm
Artist Talk - 6pm
"Printmaking is a unique artistic style--
it's unlike almost everything else."

From Our President!
Greetings to Our Hub on Canal Supporters

The temperature and humidity levels here in NSB are not yet sending the signal, but summer is winding down. The kids have gone back to school and some of our residents that fled north will soon be coming back to town. While the summer saw The Hub host great musical performances, a highly successful Summer Camp and a marvelous kid's art exhibition, there's no doubt that the pace of activity and breadth of our offerings is about to step it up a notch.

You'll find many reasons to come by the Hub in the months ahead. We'll of course present our ever-changing displays of great art (you need some for your home!) and there'll be no let-up in the quality and quantity of musical events at The Hub. Poetry Night returns in September (see below), our popular Saturday Talk Art! schedule will again expand and in January we'll commence two separate series of art history talks and discussion. Finally, I'll highlight a classes and workshop schedule that ramps up as the temperature begins its descent into our fall and winter bliss. Art education is good for you! Take a class or workshop. To help you keep all The Hub activity straight, our 6 month in-season guide will be published soon--and there's always the website, too.

In closing, many of you are already members of The Hub on Canal. We sincerely appreciate that support. We are a 501(c)3 organization and your membership dollars, along with donations and grants, are what allows us to bring the arts to all, including many examples of outreach to the underserved in our community at zero cost to participants. The more members we have, the more we can do, and you should know that the demand is nearly insatiable. To help to continue to grow our membership base, on October 1st we will make the benefits of membership even greater. Stay tuned. I'll see you soon at The Hub on Canal.

Richard England, President
