Dear Andre a

Andrea Dobras, Executive Director of NERSC, provides answers to commonly asked conference questions.

Q.  Two hour workshop sessions seem long, can't we go back to 1.5 hours?

A.  In order to meet the necessary CEUs, there would need to be (3) 1.5 hour sessions on the first two days, keeping you in session until 5 pm (currently 4 pm with two 2-hour workshops).  Most attendees agree that a little extra sitting is worth getting out earlier. Don't worry, we are going to make sure you get a 5 minute stretch break midway for next year.

Also, many workshop presenters found that 1.5 hours was not enough time, especially if they wanted to offer a Q&A opportunity.

Q.  Why aren't there snacks offered or drinks other than coffee/tea/water at breaks?

A.  Food costs are the largest expense for NERSC.  In order to keep registration costs to a minimum and provide you with more than basic continental breakfasts, we had to do away with food at break times.  Currently, NERSC is spending six figures on 6 meals for 400 people and we just can't afford that $3.50 plus 21% service charge per can of Diet Coke.

The good news is that with the help of sponsorships, we are able to continue to offer you dinner on Wednesday night with your registration at no additional cost (which is something that has not always been done in the past).
