If you have an irrigation system, now is a good time to watch the weather forecast. You can save water and money by decreasing your watering frequency or shutting off your irrigation during rainy weeks. As we move into fall, trees and shrubs may start to lose their leaves. Keep a rake handy because leaf debris can hurt the grass or encourage snails and slugs to take up residence!

September 2015
Fruits & Veggies-More Matters Month

Most people know that eating fruits and vegetables is important for good health, but most of us still aren't getting enough. According to Healthfinder.gov, fewer than 1 in 7 adults get enough fruit and fewer than 1 in 10 get enough vegetables!

September is Fruits & Veggies - More Matters Month.  Some of the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables are:
  • Lower your risk for heart disease and some types of cancer
  • Maintain or reach a healthy weight
  • Keep your body strong and active
Here are some ideas to help you and your family fit more fruits and vegetables into your day:
  • Keep a bowl of fruit out on the countertop in the kitchen
  • Cut up fruits and veggies ahead of time so they're ready for quick, healthy snacks.
  • Try roasting seasoned veggies tossed with olive oil in the oven as a delicious alternative to boiling or steaming
  • Have a piece of fruit before breakfast and lunch and start dinner with a salad. Not only will you be on your way to reaching your daily quota of fruits and vegetables, it will also help curb your appetite!
