Cows Create Careers: Introducing the calves
Tom and Sam from Hastings Secondary College - Westport Campus were keen to show off Patsy and Moe who are on loan as part of the annual Cows Create Careers program.
Students from Mr Mavin's class have jumped at the chance to be responsible for feeding and caring for the calves for three weeks. Students get to work in teams to produce a 'moo-tube' video and 3-D models as part of their assessment and an excursion to Clover Hill dairy farm is also planned for when the calves return home.  The program encourages students to learn about the dairy industry as well as exposing them to the wide range of career opportunities in agriculture through hands-on activities.
This year eight of our local high schools will be competing for lots of prizes; including $500 cash for their school. Winners will be announced at a fun and interactive presentation day to be held at Wauchope in October.
Employer Spotlight
Name: Rebecca and Michael Rowsthorne
Company: The Cruise Terminal
Owner/Operators Rebecca and Michael Rowsthorne are always busy; however, that does not stop the fun, energetic team hosting Work Placement students studying Tourism Travel and Events. In recent months the company has expanded and added to their fleet, and that means new practical experiences for Work Placement students. Current Year 12 Work Placement student Oliver Savage was literally 'thrown in the deep end' and has enjoyed every minute of the ride!

Oliver has adapted to the responsibilities given, shown great customer skills and even been able to help cook lunch for the BBQ Cruise! Rebecca and Michael could not be happier with Oliver's commitment and enthusiasm. As a recent North & The Legendary Pacific Coast Tourism Awards Winner, we congratulate all the staff at The Cruise Terminal and thank them for providing meaningful workplace learning opportunities for HSC students.

School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships are more than just part-time jobs - they're a great way to get a head start on a qualification while completing the HSC.

For high school students, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships allow Year 10, 11 and 12 high school students to be earning while still at school learning. A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship combines paid work, training and school allowing students to gain credit towards the HSC, receive a nationally-recognised qualification and be work-ready when school finishes.  To find out more, speak with a Careers Adviser today or register your interest with Mid Coast Connect.

For employers, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships will secure the future of business by skilling up the next generation of employees.  Mid Coast Connect can help employers with recruitment and provide ongoing support.  To find out more speak with us today on 6583 5910.
