September is Library Card Sign-up Month!
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the American Library Association and libraries nationwide join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.

A public library card is a ticket to free educational resources and activities such as homework help, digital workshops for all-ages, STEAM programs/activities, book clubs, family storytimes and game nights.

A library card also provides access to a variety of digital media, including ebooks. Recent figures show more than 93 percent of public libraries offer ebooks and other digital content. According to OverDrive, more than 200 million checkouts of digital content at libraries was expected throughout 2016.

If you haven't been to your local library lately, September is a great time for a visit.

The Kent Seed Library has had a great season! Many patrons have taken advantage of the seed varieties available. Now the time has come to replenish the heirloom seed supply for next year! Here are a few guidelines:

If patrons have borrowed seeds, they are not obligated to donate seeds. However donations are appreciated to keep the Seed Library self-sustaining.  Consider returning twice the amount borrowed to keep the drawers full. Make sure the seeds are dry and clean of particles prior to donating.

When donating borrowed or self-grown seeds, please include the name of plant, variety of plant, and year harvested.  Pre-made envelopes are available at the seed library, but seeds can be donated in whatever bags patrons have available as long as bags are labeled.

Remember to sign in the Seed Binder so we can keep track of the seed library usage. Commercial seeds can be donated as long as they are not GMO.  They must be heirloom or open-pollinated. Heirloom/open-pollinated seeds can also be purchased online @ Seed Savers Exchange and Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.
In addition we are pursuing seed donations from seed companies. Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company has kindly donated 26 packets of heirloom seeds!

Drop them off at Annie Bananie General,
