Want to be a Youth Development Trainer?
Interested in being a Certified Trauma Informed Care program?
DCYF University is the place for you!
DCYF University will provide an opportunity for staff and programs to become “Specialists” by delving deeper into specific subject matter. Within this pilot we are offering three areas of Specialization:
- Youth Development Best Practices with a Training of the Trainer focus
- Youth Development Best Practices with a Trauma Informed focus
- Youth Leadership, Empowerment and Advocacy with a Staff focus

DCYF After School Snack & Supper Program Sites
|
Every weekday during the school year,
anyone age 18 and under can get a free after school snack and supper at sites throughout the City!
No proof of need, registration, or identification is required in order to receive a snack or supper. The only requirement: arrive at a designated site during the site’s serving time.

On September 5 the Trump Administration directed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In response to this change in policy, DCYF updated the Immigrant Families and DREAMers section of the Help is Here page on our website with
next steps and resources for DACA recipients

On Saturday, September 23 the SF Office of Civic Engagement & Immigrant Affairs will host a
DACA Renewal Workshop & Information Session
. The workshop is free of charge, but registration is required.

Join Us at the Tenderloin Stop the Violence Hip-Hop Festival
|
On Saturday, September 23 the Tenderloin Stop the Violence Coalition, will host
Stop the Violence - A Multicultural Hip-Hop Festival
from 10am to 5pm on Jones Street between McAllister and Eddy street. The Festival will be a time of healing, community building, and fun for the people who live and work in the Tenderloin. The event will feature
performances by San Quinn, Yung Lott, Lil Kayla, and DJ Rick Lee
, as well a resource fair, arts and crafts, free food, and much more.

Lights On Afterschool is an annual nationwide event
celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities

Next SPWG Meeting: Monday, October 2
|
The Service Provider Working Group (SWPG) of the Children and Youth Fund Oversight & Advisory Committee (OAC)
will meet on Monday, October 2 from 3:30pm to 5pm
at the Boys & Girls Club, 380 Fulton street. SPWG meetings are open to any agency that serves children, youth, and families in San Francisco.

closed on Monday, October 9
in observance of the Columbus Day holiday.

Next OAC Meeting: Monday, November 13
|
The Children and Youth Fund Oversight & Advisory Committee will take a recess in October, and will meet next
on Monday, November 13
at 5:30pm in the DCYF office, 1390 Market, Suite 900. All OAC meetings are open to the public.

Boys & Girls Club Sunnydale Backpack Giveaway
The last backpack giveaway of the season took place at the
Boys & Girls Club Sunnydale
. The turnout was way beyond expectations, and hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to children & youth. Mayor Lee spoke about the importance of education and having the materials to succeed, and he even started a birthday song chant for one of the recipients! DCYF hopes everyone has a successful, fun, and safe 2017-2018 school year!

SF Youth Commission Swearing In Ceremony
On September 6th the
SF Youth Commission
held a swearing in ceremony for their new and returning 2017-2018 Commissioners. Special shout out to District 7 Commissioner Kristen Tam, who is also a member of DCYF's Youth Advisory Board!

OMI Health & Wellness Fair
On September 16 the DCYF Community Engagement Team tabled at the annual OMI Community Health & Wellness Fair. The event featured exhibitors from City departments and community-based organizations, free food (thanks for the yummo tamales!), performances, and even some real karate kids breaking boards!

Mayor's Youth Jobs+ End of Summer Celebration
The End of Summer Celebration for the
Mayor's Youth Jobs+
program
celebrated the 7,000+ jobs and internships created for San Francisco youth this summer. DCYF and our City, private, and nonprofit partners have been supporting Youth Jobs+ since it started in 2012. It gets bigger and better every year!
