Changes to the Immunization Act Related to Non-Medical Exemptions The Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) has been revised to strengthen the vaccine exemption process in Ontario. These changes will help parents make an informed decision if they choose to not vaccinate their children for non-medical reasons. Read more...

Changes to the DTaP Vaccine Effective immediately , DTaP-IPV-Hib (Pediacel®) vaccine will permanently replace DTaP-IPV (Quadracel® and Infanrix®-IPV) vaccine for ‘catch-up’ primary doses for children in Ontario who are less than seven years of age. For details, click here .

What do you need to talk to your patients about cannabis? Health Canada is developing resources for health care professionals working with youth and vulnerable populations to help learn about and have informative and engaging conversations about cannabis: the facts, the risks and the upcoming changes. They have created a survey to make sure you have the resources you need. Click here for the survey, please feel free to share the survey with your fellow colleagues as well. Food on the Table or Heat in the Winter - Could You Choose? PPH has released its 2017 Limited Incomes: A Recipe for Food Insecurity report based on annual Nutritious Food Basket costing. Food insecurity – inadequate or insecure access to food because of financial constraints - affects 16.5% of local households. Poverty, not food prices, is the root cause of food insecurity. Consider what you can do in your practice by attending the Treating Poverty Training Event on December 1, 2017.

Energy and Sports Drinks for Youth Sports drinks and caffeinated energy drinks (CEDs) are commonly consumed by youth. Both sports drinks and CEDs pose potential risks for the health of children and adolescents and may contribute to obesity. EVENTS For Health Care Providers

The Peterborough Drug Strategy (PDS) Training Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills and tools will explore ways that health care providers and other helping professionals can integrate DBT skills into their workplace and practice (two-day interactive training). First Stage Trauma Treatment workshop will offer tools for integrating trauma informed practice into work, and share safety and stabilization techniques that can be used with clients (one day training).  For more information, or to register for upcoming workshops visit the Question of Care Training Calendar.
