CrossRoads Event

It was a wonderful evening at the CrossRoads Event last night...incredible music, great food, and good fellowship. Most importantly, it was a successful fundraiser. We don't know the final total, but we do know that the proceeds from ticket sales and live auction exceeded $18K!

Enjoy this First Church news.

Sermon series

Credo...Keeping your faith in unbelievable times.
Ours is a time when people are struggling for faith. People are struggling with what they believe in and how to keep believing. We hear it in our young adults. They want to believe in a God who makes a difference. They know the God that they don't believe in-a God of easy answers, a God tied to a particular political point of view. But they struggle with what kind of God they do believe in.

Sermon Title:  "Babel in Reverse - Wonders of God for the World"
Scripture:  Genesis 11:1 - 9 Acts 2:5-12
We welcome Rev. Van Dickens, Captain, Chaplain Corps, USN (Ret) to our pulpit this Sunday. Rev. Dickens will preach at the 8:30 am worship service. Dr. Will Cotton will preach at the 9:40 and 11 am services.  The Source , our weekly devotional guide, is available on the church website

The sacrament of Holy Communion will be included in all services as we will celebrate World Communion Sunday.
Please join us in worship this Sunday at  8:30 am (Sanctuary), 9:40 am (FLC), or 11 am (Sanctuary).
Words from Will...
Security at First Church
With the tragic event at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Tennessee, I felt it important to let you know that a blue-ribbon Emergency Preparedness Committee has been meeting regularly to address our security needs, including developing:
  1. controlled access for the safety of our office, Council Oak Preschool, studies, classes, music and other small groups
  2. procedures for weather-related emergencies
  3. better lighting and security cameras
  4. procedures for medical emergencies
  5. strategies and training for critical incidents like what happened in Tennessee
Dr. Will Cotton
Dr. Will Cotton
The Emergency Preparedness Committee is made up of highly qualified people representing each of these concerns. I also serve on the committee. Willis Seabrook is our chairperson.
As part of our Emergency Preparedness planning, we need to know who in our congregation has medical assistance or peace officer skills, and is willing to volunteer for various aspects of emergency preparedness. Being on standby to serve your fellow members is a ministry valued by all.

Are you qualified and willing?
Please e-mail me, Dr. Will Cotton,, directly with your name, skill and Sunday service you prefer to attend.

Your names will be kept confidential and accessed only by certain staff members and the Emergency Preparedness Committee. I will personally contact you as our plan develops.

The funds for Security Equipment are provided through our First Match campaign held this past spring. The safety of our congregation is a top priority. I am excited to see the highly gifted, experienced and dedicated people who are leading us. Please be in prayer as the Emergency Preparedness Committee does its great work.
Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature

Have you taken the survey?
Vision Survey

Why Take the Survey?
In July, we began a new Vision Effort to discern where God is leading our ministry in the next chapter of First United Methodist Church. This survey gives you the opportunity to share your concerns and dreams for the future for our great congregation. This survey will close soon, so don't delay! It will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

Coats for Kids

Coats for Kids Barrels will be on campus, October 3 - 24
It is still too warm outside to be concerned about a coat, but it is time to consider donating a new or very gently used coat so that a Round Rock child will be warm during the winter months. There will be a barrel in Payne Cottage/Bldg. 4 and in front of the Council Oak Preschool office.

Fall Festival
On October 29 we are hosting our annual  Trunk or Treat and Fall Festival . This is an afternoon for children of the congregation and community. They can come trick or treat at the decorated trunks and also participate in our Fall Festival activities. To make this event a success, we are going to need your help.

How can you help?
  • Donate Candy: We rely on candy donations to pass out to children during the trunk or treat so we are asking for you to help donate candy. You can bring the candy to the Student Ministry Office or on Sunday Mornings there will be a bin in the Sanctuary Foyer.
  • Sign Up to provide a Trunk: Trunk or Treat relies on people signing up to bring their trunk and help pass out candy to children as they come through. You will come with your car, decorate your trunk and then pass out candy, this is crucial to the success of the event. To sign up your trunk follow this link: Trunk or Treat Sign Up
  •  Volunteer for the Festival: There are also opportunities to sign up and volunteer for the festival portion of the event and this will be a huge need as well. This is a great way for youth earn service hours that they might need and its fun to help put on a great event for children!  We will need volunteers to set up, work the booths and clean up!
We look forward to this event every year and hope that you will help us in making it a success yet again.

Thank you all so much!
Do you shop on Amazon?

If you are like many of us, you shop at Amazon or Amazon Prime. If so, you could help First Church by going to and selecting  First United Methodist Church of Round Rock as your charitable organization. As you shop, Amazon will give 0.5% of your purchase to First Church. No additional fees are added to your purchase. Dollars donated will go directly into the church general revenue fund. If we all remember to do this with each purchase, it could begin to add up.  Give it a try!
October is Pastor Appreciation Month
Pastor Appreciation Month

First Church is blessed with an extraordinary pastoral staff in Dr. Will Cotton, Dr. Beverly Jones and Rev. Katie Meek (although Katie will be leaving us soon to go to Sierra Leone as a missionary). How often do you pause to say thank you for their compassionate leadership? October is a good time to show your appreciation. Here are some ideas to get you started...pray for them, send a note, post your thanks on their social media, make a financial gift in their honor, volunteer to serve in the church...add your own ideas.
