 From the Director's Desk...

Welcome to Fall 2016!  Many great things have been happening with AC4C through the collaboration of everyone's efforts.  The video links featured below are related to the beer tax and marijuana projects that have been spearheaded by the Policy Work Group.  You can also find them on our website  www.AC4C.org   under the Alcohol Awareness and the Marijuana: Voices of Reason pages along with other related information.  The videos were done to raise awareness to the importance of a Beer Tax and why we feel

     Beer tax vide
marijuana is not a legislative decision.   Both videos have been well received by all who have seen them.  Thanks to the Policy Work Group and others who worked through the edits to make them say the message in a simple way.  At our summer retreat, we unveiled the Beer Tax video and collectively came up with the messaging should go along with the video the five key points are:  Alcohol abuse costs Iowans; Low tax high abuse; Pocket change can create change for a healthier and safer Iowa; Proven it protects youth from alcohol abuse; Good for all Iowans by funding prevention, treatment and enforcement; It's time for change.

retreat in October as we have two packed days on two hot topics.  On October 4th, we will be focusing on the work happening in Iowa regarding Opioids.  Al Fear, with the Eastern Iowa Heroin Project, will share his knowledge and we will collectively address what we can do across Iowa right now.  On October 5th, we will be hosting a panel related to Alcohol and discuss many policy related topics to alcohol, including the beer tax, in the morning.

Be sure you register even if you are only to come for a portion of the retreat. You can register at  this link.

I look forward to continue working with all of you as we head into our next fiscal year.

Thanks for all you do!
Angie

We need your help!

We all know that increasing the cost of alcohol is an effective method of decreasing underage drinking.  A beer excise tax will do that.  Since the Iowa beer excise tax has not been raised in the last 30 years and Iowa legislators are looking for additional tax revenue, the timing is right to seek an increase.   The  AC4C Policy Work Group has worked to produce a beer tax video.  Please check out the video and look over the talking points below to familiarize yourself with the concepts. We are asking the substance abuse prevention coalitions, agencies and partners in Iowa to help educate their communities and state legislators using the information shared with the video.
  • Alcohol abuse costs all Iowans
  • Low beer excise taxes result in more youth drinking
  • Pocket change can create change for a healthier and safer Iowa
  • Proven it protects youth from alcohol abuse
  • Good for all Iowans by funding prevention, treatment and enforcement
  • It's time for change
Please share both the video and talking points with others.  For instance, when messaging on social media, share the link to the video, and add the talking points.

1) View the video
2) Familiarize yourself with the talking points and the info in the video.
3) Then share the info with others.
4) One final step; email us at [email protected] to share your thoughts.

Thank you for helping us share this important message!
