Who Am I?
My place of birth is:
Toledo, OH

My hobbies are:
Reading, blogging, and baking

The last good book I read was:
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. I'd highly recommend!

What I couldn't live without:
theSkimm newsletter. It's the best way to start any day! (No, they didn't pay me to say that!)

My greatest accomplishment outside my profession:
I was editor-in-chief of a student run fashion magazine in college, and it was amazing experience that taught me so many valuable lessons I continue to use in my professional career today!

The reason I got into advertising/marketing:
I was immediately drawn to the fast-paced nature and dynamic culture of agency life. It's such an exciting industry with so many opportunities, I leaped at the chance to be a part of a team that gets to think creatively and thrives on new ideas!

Biggest influences on me professionally:
My mentor/boss Mindy Withrow and family friend Rita Mansour! They're both such inspiring women that have helped me grow as a person and professional while teaching me to always believe in myself along the way.

My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:
To be fluent in Italian. Let's just say it's a work in progress!

The one thing I really want the world to know about me:
I'm a big quote person, and I'm hung up this quote from Marc Jacobs on my desk on my very first day of work: "Let's do what we love, and do a lot of it." I love what I do and I can't be more thankful. Isn't that what we're all striving for?

Best part of my job:
That I learn something new every single day. No day is the same at my job, and I truly believe that's the best way to live!

Best thing about being an AAF Toledo member:
This is my first year on the board, and I've already met so many amazing people in the area. I can't wait to see what else is in store, especially now that my work is located in downtown Toledo!

2017-2018
AAF Toledo President
Welcome to September!

AAF Toledo looks forward to all that the Fall season entails including a few annual member favorite programs such as The Internship Event and Our Favorite Things luncheon.
The Internship Event will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn on Saturday, November 4 bringing together students, professionals and prospective employers for a unique networking and educational experience. The event is a collaborative effort by AAF Toledo, the Press Club of Toledo and PRSA Northwest Ohio. Registration is free and there are several sponsorship opportunities available.

Save the date to Eat, Drink and Be Merry at the AAF Toledo Our Favorite Things program on Wednesday, December 6 at the Hilton Garden Inn! Area retailers will showcase the season's hottest gift ideas and Chrys Peterson will return as the event emcee with raffles and door prizes for attendees. If you are a merchant that would like to participate as a vendor, please contact director@aaftoledo.org.

Did you know that the ADDYs are the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AdClub competitions? The local ADDY Awards hosted by AAF Toledo are the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local AdClub competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY. It is not too soon to start thinking about your organizations ADDY submissions for this year. For inspiration, view prior year winners, Gold Medal award recipients and the ADDY award process here.

We are grateful for your support of AAF Toledo. Be sure to keep up with all that is happening by following us on Facebook or by visiting www.aaftoledo.org for current event and program information!

AAF Alert - Tax Reform

AAF Colleague:

As I am sure you are aware, the United States Congress and the White House are expected to release a federal tax reform proposal in the next few weeks.  Members of the House and Senate tax-writing committees are currently working to determine how to pay for the bill.

Advertising is at great risk.  In a meeting this week with representatives of the ad industry a senior tax advisor to a member of the Senate leadership told us that advertising "is on the chopping block for sure" and may be close to a "done deal."

The House version of the last comprehensive tax reform proposal in 2014 would have created at $169 billion tax on advertising over 10 years.  It looks as if Congress and the Trump Administration may be going down that road again.

It is vital that you and other members of your company or ad club contact your Senators and Representative and urge them to oppose any effort to place a tax on advertising by reducing the amount of advertising a business may claim as a normal and necessary business expense.

You can find contact information for your Senators here and Representatives here .

According to studies designed by a Nobel winning economist a tax on advertising must be opposed because:

  • Advertising is the engine of the U.S. economy and generates $5.8 trillion in economic activity
  • Advertising supports 20 million American jobs
  • Every $1 million spent on advertising supports 67 jobs across American industries
  • Every advertising job supports 34 jobs across other industries.
Feel free to contact me if you would like to include data for your state or congressional district.

I urge you to contact your Senators and Representatives as soon as possible.  Please let me know if you have any questions and I would appreciate a report on any responses you may get.

Thank you for your support of the advertising industry and the AAF.

AAF Toledo Blog

How to Submit a Guest Blog Post to AAF Toledo

The ideal length for a post is between 850 and 1,000 words and must not have been previously published.

Come up with a great idea. To be considered, AAFTOL blog topics should be related to advertising, marketing and communications. Write something that you would want to read yourself.

Send a proposal. Send a brief proposal to director@aaftoledo.org. Please do not send the full article. Keep it brief: a tentative headline; two or three sentences explaining what the blog will be about; and one sentence saying why you are qualified to write it. Based on this proposal AAFTOL will let you know within three business days whether to submit the article.

Write with the reader in mind. Writing for the web is different from writing for print. The best way to organize the piece is to start with a brief set-up that hooks the reader. Then organize the rest in segments. Assume the reader is busy and has a short attention span. Short paragraphs and headings within the article make it easier to read.

Include a brief bio at the top. Your name; the name of your company (with a link to your website); and if you've written a book relevant to the article, the title of that book with a link to the Amazon page or to your website if the book is available for sale there. If you tweet, please indicate that, and include a link to your Twitter profile page.

Submit the completed article. Please submit your final version by pasting into the body of an e-mail, or attach it as a Microsoft word document. Your submission will be reviewed by AAFTOL editorial board. If we have any questions, comments or concerns, we will contact you.

What happens next? AAFTOL will acknowledge receipt of the blog within 24 hours, and let you know within a week whether it has been accepted for publication. If it is, AAFTOL reserves the right to edit the article, including changes in the text, subheads and headline, to improve readability and maximize web traffic.
