You've said "It is circumstance that ultimately shapes lives."How have your circumstances as an exile living in Paris and Tarifa shaped you and your work?

Testimonial
To reduce Firouz Farman-Farmaian to a dilettante personality that flies from one passion to another would be a mistake. "Media is everything and everything is media" he likes to repeat like a Mantra.

"Embracing all these disciplines has saved me from the temptation to enclose myself in a reduced vision of art". His open stance to "the worlds" will lead him in his thirties to experiment on structure and immediacy. But beside his success, this iconoclast artist strongly believes that something is missing in his work. Something like soul. The missing piece will come in the form of an advice by a mentor, Fereydoun Ave "Search the structure of your identity to let go the butterfly from its chrysalis". RetroProjection is the fruit of that search.

Firouz FarmanFarmaian Summer at the Caspian Artist Statement
Firouz FarmanFarmaian is participating in Memory & Future / Future & Memory. The exhibition deals with two contemporary Iranian artists' very different interpretations of memory and the past. One from an artist who grew up in Iran and now visits regularly (Sassan Behnam Bakhtiar) and who draws inspiration from these visits; the other who left aged four and has not returned since (Firouz FarmanFarmaian) and who explores the meaning of his exile and identity through his projections.  At Shirin Gallery NY from October 20 - November 13, 2016  More here
