September is a great time in Maine. It is also a busy time for the Chamber. On September 14
th
, we will host our 12
th
annual Business Expo. As you have read in some of my previous articles, Maine is experiencing a growing need for willing and able workers. Several of our members are trying to find workers and this past weekend, I heard that some businesses had to close due to a worker shortage caused by students going back to school and not enough workers to fill the gaps. This is tragic for an economy that is trying to grow.
This year, due to the critical need, we have added a Job Fair to our event. The Job Fair will take place from 10am till 1:00pm at XL SportsWorld 400 North Street Saco. We encourage people looking for work to attend, bring your resume, and network with over 45 potential employers. This could be a new beginning for someone looking to change careers or advance in a new field.
Following the Job Fair, we will host the Business Expo. We have begun a new campaign called the Community Awareness Campaign where we will be using all means possible to better inform citizens and potential investors about the diversity of businesses the Biddeford+Saco Region has to offer. Well over 50 Businesses will be showcased and that number continues to grow daily. The Expo will take place from 4:30 till 7:00 PM at XL SportsWorld 400 North Street in Saco. We encourage the public to attend. The event is FREE and we will have Slugger from the Portland Sea Dogs and Crusher from the Maine Red Claws joining us to celebrate this great event. Please stop by after work or after dinner and see what the Biddeford+Saco region has to offer.
