I was raised in a suburb of Rochester, NY and started tap dancing when I was 6 in a ballet/tap combo class in my neighbor's basement studio.  I liked ballet, but I loved tap and it was a sad day when she decided to stop teaching.  My parents found another ballet teacher, but were unable to find another tap teacher in what I now know (thanks to ATDF) was tap's decline. That was the end of tap for me for many years. I n 1989, I moved to NYC to take a teaching job at Tompkins Hall, a preschool affiliated with Columbia University (which I later learned Margaret Morrison's sister and brother attended!). After finishing grad school and gaining some free time, I wandered into a Capezio store one day and bought a pair of tap shoes.  I didn't know if adults were supposed to take class if they weren't in the theater, but I wanted to try it even if it was crazy.  The jury is still out on that!  I took my shoes home and promptly put them in the closet for six months!  In 2000, when I was 36, I took a Basic class with Germaine Salsberg and was soon heading to class again each week.

I followed Germaine to the first Tap City in 2001, took her Beginner class, attended my first tap show and began learning about ATDF.  I started studying with Lynn Schwab and Barbara Duffy in a studio rented by ATDF before the ATDC even existed, and since then, I've had the opportunity to study here in NY with many other great teachers including Brenda Bufalino and Margaret Morrison. I've traveled to other festivals around the country and have had the pleasure of meeting Tap dancers from around the world.
I continue to study with Lynn, and as her Dance Captain in the Tuesday night Rep class, I've had the privilege of leading rehearsals when she is away.  I have also started substitute teaching at PeriDance and last January, I had an opportunity to perform with Germaine Salsberg's company, Les Femmes.   I don't know where tap will take me from here, but I do know I want to continue to dance and share it with others. In the meantime, I will make sure I always have my tap shoes in my bag.
