PRESENTATION:

Sammie Rayner,
Co-Founder - Partnerships & Strategy
 HandUp

Sammie Rayner is a Co-Founder and leads Partnerships for HandUp.org, a crowdfunding platform for people in need in the U.S. HandUp members can use their donations on basic needs like food, clothing and medical care through partnering human service organizations. Before joining HandUp, Sammie founded and served as Executive Director for Lumana, a microfinance organization in Ghana which was acquired in 2013 through a partnership with one of West Africa's largest microfinance institutes. She has been honored by the City of Seattle as a "New Hero" for her work as a social entrepreneur and by the City of San Francisco for her dedication to homelessness. Sammie is passionate about market-based solutions to poverty and using technology as a tool to create human connections that strengthen communities.

HandUp.org creates meaningful ways for local citizens to directly support homeless neighbors in their community. In addition to their crowdfunding website where donors can directly support specific goals of those experiencing poverty, HandUp also offers gift cards that can be given directly to individuals on the street to help them cover basic needs and connect with social services. All donations are redeemed through HandUp's network of top nonprofits that ensure the funds are used on critical needs like housing, medical care,  and employment expenses. If you're interested in getting involved, visit SF Outreach Day   to learn more about the city-wide homeless outreach event HandUp is planning on September 11th!
