2017 ANNUAL REPORT - A SIGNIFICANT YEAR
Excerpt of Message from OPPI President, Andrea Bourrie, RPP:
"Significant. That's the word I have chosen to describe my second year as OPPI President. Together, we've dealt with:
  • Updates to planning legislation
  • Inspiration through the execution of our new strategic plan, INSPIRE OPPI
  • Anticipation of new professional regulation
Significant effort has gone into everything we've touched. Hundreds of volunteer and staff hours turn ordinary tasks into extraordinary achievements and make OPPI the envy of associations across the country."

VOLUNTEERS WANTED!
Our
seven Districts engage, connect and recognize members and volunteers locally. They also facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise for the betterment of planning in Ontario.

OPPI is working on a new onboarding tool to help District Leadership Team volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities, and the resources available to help fulfil their roles.

Consider volunteering with your District . Connect with your District Chair, learn about leadership opportunities, and sign up to volunteer in your District!
YOUR PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY
BILL 122: PERSISTENT AND HOPEFUL
As we shared in the August issue of The Planner,  Bill 122,  Registered Professional Planners Act 2017,  was introduced by then MPP Peter Milczyn and received First and Second Reading in the legislature this spring. The Bill received support from all three parties thanks to the more than 200 OPPI members who persistently contacted their MPPs. In late July, MPP Peter Milczyn, sponsor of Bill 122, was promoted to Cabinet as Minister of Housing. As Minister, he is  no longer eligible to sponsor Bill 122, and we are currently seeking a new sponsor. Once the new sponsor is confirmed, we hope that it will continue to go to committee and then to Third Reading.

We are confident that the government will acknowledge the value of what we do and the proposed RPP Act will pass with all party support in the near future. On Oct 4th, we will be celebrating RPP at our Conference networking dinner where we are hopeful to make a significant announcement on Bill 122.

As summer draws to a close, if you have not yet contacted your MPP, please do so now . Follow up now with another email message, call or in-person meeting. We look forward to celebrating RPP with you at Blue Mountain!
SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!
Our
six universities offering accredited planning programs will welcome the Outreach Committee in September to speak to their planning students.

Outreach Committee members welcome them to our professional community and introduce OPPI as a valuable resource to student planners.

BRANDING RPP ON SOCIAL MEDIA
If you are a Full Member of OPPI in good standing, you may use your RPP designation after your surname, academic degrees and professional licenses, but before other memberships and affiliations.

Your social media is a key platform that will help build the RPP brand in Ontario. We spoke with RPPs who are already doing just that.

"I am proud to be an RPP and I want everyone on social media to know I am part of a group of highly skilled professionals." - Tracey Pillon-Abbs, RPP

"Identifying myself as a Registered Professional Planner helps raise awareness of the RPP designation and reminds me to maintain a respectful and professional tone when engaging with other Twitter users." - Matt Alexander,
