BACK TO SCHOOL! What an exciting time of the year for students and parents. We hope that everyone is adjusting well to any changes that this year might bring. It is great to have so many of you back to regular lessons, and to have so many new faces here for private lessons and for our growing Infant, Toddler & Preschooler Programs.

And speaking of school, we are happy to continue on with another year of our after-school enrichment programs at Arroyo Seco Elementary and East Avenue Middle School. Keep on reading for details of these unique programs for students to work together in a fun Rock Band setting.

"But I don't go to those schools! And I want to be in Rock Band, too! That's not fair!"

Now, now, don't get upset - we have options. New rock bands are forming for current Music Time Academy students of ALL AGES (including adults). Reply to this email or call us for details on how to sign up. Alternatively, if your child attends a local school that might be interested in adding an after school Rock Band program, please put us in contact with your friendly PTA or other organizing group.

Keep on reading...the fun has only just begun.

Meet the new drummer of the Saint Michael's School Rock Band! Excited to make the band as only a 5th grader (which is like, kind of a big deal and stuff, since all the other members are in 6th-8th grade), Nicholas is already in band rehearsals to perform for his classmates and their families soon.

Clearly excited to be able to show off is ability to completely rock out on the drums, Nicholas is also totally ready to go for the Music Time Academy Winter Concert this December. If you don't believe us, just come by the studio on any Friday night and hear for yourself when Nicholas and his instructor, Xavier, jam out on the entire arrangement of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band! We can't wait to see it on the big stage.

Congrats to you, Nicholas, for making so much progress on the drums in less than one year. On behalf of the Music Time staff, we are very proud of you - keep up the great work!

Do you know a current Music Time Academy student with a newsworthy musical story or accomplishment from the past month that should be featured? If so, please fill out our online nomination form by following this link:  STUDENT OF THE MONTH NOMINATION FORM
Teacher Feature
For September, we would like to feature one of the newest staff members that we are very happy to have as part of our fabulous teaching team, Nick Davila.

With a passion for music that has been developing since the age of seven, Nick Davila's musical path takes him through a wide variety of instruments and genres. At the onset of his journey, he enrolled in drum lessons, followed shortly by joining grade school band as a trumpet player. Nick later discovered the instruments that he would feel most passionate about and that would become the center of his attention: bass, piano, and cello.

Studying privately for over a decade under reputable Bay Area Music gurus Spencer Craig (bass) and Nicole Mortimore (piano and cello), Nick honed his skills on his primary instruments to a professional level. Beyond private lessons, Nick's education extended to completion of a Bachelor of Arts Degree from San Francisco State University, in addition to courses in advanced music theory, composition and piano from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill.

Having come a long way from his teenage years of playing bass in up and coming punk rock bands, Nick was a member of a variety of Blues, Funk, Rock and R&B bands while in college, and currently performs with Radiokeys, who recently appeared at the legendary San Francisco venue, Slim's. Nick enjoys writing music of his own, and is excited to be a part of the Music Time team, teaching students on Bass, Piano, Cello, Guitar, Mandolin and Ukulele.
