September Q&A: Our New Callahan Location with Linda Ellis

This month, Barnabas Chief Program Officer, Linda Ellis, MA, MSW, LCSW, reports on the recent move of our Barnabas location in Callahan.

Where is the new Callahan office and when is it open?
At the end of July, we moved our Callahan office to 45103 Green Avenue. It's a yellow house behind Callahan Baptist Church. Our hours of operation remain the same: Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm.

What types of services are available in the Callahan office?
Barnabas provides crisis assistance for rent and utilities, vouchers for clothing and furniture, a bike for transportation to work, and emergency food. Anyone seeking assistance must be a Nassau County resident and meet specific income requirements.

Can West Nassau County residents also receive services at the Fernandina Beach office?
Yes. Not all Barnabas services are available in our Callahan office. Our main Barnabas Center in Fernandina Beach provides primary medical and dental care for the uninsured at significantly reduced fees. And, Gerri's Corner also is located in this main office, offering free resources to women with cancer.

How do individuals obtain Barnabas' services at the Callahan office?
We continue to encourage West Nassau County residents who are seeking our assistance to first contact our main office at (904) 261-7000 to schedule an appointment with a volunteer or resource coordinator during the Callahan office hours.

How can donors and volunteers help?
If you're interested in volunteering at any of our Barnabas locations, donating clothing, furniture and food, please contact our main Barnabas Center at 1303 Jasmine Street, Fernandina Beach, 902 261-7000. Thanks in advance for your generous support!

Join Us in Welcoming Physician Assistant Wilbur Johnson

null
We are pleased to welcome Wilbur Johnson, PA-C, to the Barnabas medical services clinic located in our main Fernandina Beach offices. Wilbur graduated from the University of Florida physician assistant program and earned his master's degree in health from the University of North Florida. He recently retired from the UF Health clinic in Yulee, where he had worked since 1993. Wilbur is working 12 hours per week at our health services office on Wednesday afternoons and all day Thursdays. His additional hours will help us assist more primary care patients. Wilbur is from Jacksonville, but has lived in Nassau County for the past 25 years.

Nassau Health Foods Hosts Healing Workshop and Donates $500 to Barnabas

Nassau Health Foods recently hosted a lecture on Ayurvedic healing and donated proceeds from the event to Barnabas Center. More than 60 participants gathered to learn more about Ayurveda, or Ayurveda medicine, a system of medicine with historical roots from India. Ayurveda therapies have varied and evolved over more than two millennia, and are typically based on complex herbal compounds. The lecture was presented by Shannon Kelly, including an opportunity to make a donation to Barnabas. We're thankful for the $500 that was raised at the event. For more information on Ayurvedic healing and Nassau Health Foods, contact Terrie Holloway at [email protected] .
