SEPTEMBER NEWS
September / 6 / 2017
Dear Forest Hills Family and Friends,

Forest Hills is continuing to invest in our community and is always working hard to enhance the quality of life for our residents. With that, please take note of the following...

IMPORTANT RENOVATION UPDATE

Starting in 2012, we embarked on a comprehensive plan for major upgrades in our community's common areas: the new entrance way, beautiful main lobby, library, gift shop, complete makeover of our concierge area, Assisted Living and Healthcare Center Dining Rooms are all evidence of these efforts. The next phase is a renovation of our main kitchen, located behind the Assisted Living Dining Room.

The kitchen will receive new equipment, flooring, light fixtures, painting, and other major improvements that will enhance our dining service and your dining experience.

In order to accomplish this work, all kitchen operations will move to a mobile kitchen, which will be located adjacent to our garden. We anticipate arrival of the mobile unit later this month or in early October. The mobile kitchen is replete with state of the art equipment and is specifically designed for alternative meal preparation during major renovations.

The plans for the renovation of our main kitchen, including the use of the mobile kitchen, were reviewed and approved by the District of Columbia Department of Health, Health Regulation Administration, Health Care Facilities Division.

We are optimistic that the work will take approximately twelve weeks to complete. You will be kept apprised of progress and when our new kitchen is fully operational again.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or Carra Thomas, General Manager Dining Services at 202-966-7623 ext. 3300 or [email protected].

We hope you share our excitement about this heroic, though long-overdue, project. Please know that we apologize for any inconvenience you may experience during the renovation, but I am confident you will be very pleased with the results.

As always, it is my privilege to serve you and family members here at Forest Hills. Please do not hesitate to let me know whenever I can be of assistance to you.

Warm regards,

July 2017 Ceca Award Winner
Jah Gina

Congratulations to Jah Gina on winning the July 2017 Ceca Award! Last month we celebrated his award at Forest Hills with some of the nice things people had to say about him:

"Last Friday we had a community wide power outage, which affected the chiller, which controls the air conditioning. Despite being off and other staff being on property, Jah came in with patience and precision and got the a/c back in service. This was most appreciated by staff and residents as we were in the midst of a major hot period!"

"Today was truly a day of CECA moments that involved our Maintenance Technician, Jah Gina. It started with the flooded basement after a steady rain all night. Jah was called and had to suction nearly a foot of water out of the basement and then insert the snake in an external drain to remove the rest of the water. A little later, there was a new piece of equipment to be installed in the kitchen. However, the water line that was needed to make the equipment operational needed to be connected first. 'Jah, we need you in the kitchen!' Jah's answer was don't worry; I'll get it done in 20 minutes. And he did! Before long, the equipment was up and working beautifully. Then there was the resident's wheel chair that needed repair. As soon as Jah received the request, he went to her. Hooray! The wheel chair was working again and the resident was happy. Then there was the resident's room that was too hot. And once again, Jah to the rescue. He didn't go home until the temperature was at a comfortable level and the resident was happy. All of these activities happened on the same day, and Jah kept a smile on his face through it all."

Thank you, Jah, for all you do for our residents and our community!
