Wow! OMG!! Long time no talk. It has been too long since my last newsletter. I promise I have not been hiding out or goofing off. Time flies but I would be remiss if I didn't say sorry for not posting sooner. Please accept my apology and let me give you a quick rundown of my whereabouts and activities.
CMI projects continue to keep my inspectors and staff busy working on structural wood repair, painting, spalling repair, new railing installation for high rise buildings, waterproofing, roofing, cast iron pipe replacement, electrical repair, asphalt resurfacing & sealcoating, PV installations and more! We've completed many property condition inspections for AOAOs. CMI reviews applications for architectural designs for any building structure.

A big side project I'm working on that is a very hot topic is the investigation of the Rail Project. In addition to reviewing and scrutinizing the recent City Audit and HART construction cost budget numbers, I personally inspect the ongoing rail construction. My investigation uncovers issues and raises questions such as: What has the money been spent on? Are the HART budget numbers correct? Why has there been a $3 billion cost escalation? What is the true cost to complete the rail project?
CMI legal Expert Witness division is currently working on three litigation cases involving homeowners and condo associations regarding failure to maintain various building components and cases involving construction defects.
This past month was rainy with numerous storm warnings during which I inspected two properties in Honolulu proper. One involved an illegal retaining rock wall built without a permit. The other involved a landslide in Nuuanu that affected no less than 5 single family homes.
I am the Construction Engineer and construction manager on an emergency project of a broken 6 inch fire sprinkler main pipe that was buried 8 feet below a parking ramp of a high rise condo building in Waikiki. More on the happenings of this emergency project which is nearing its completion in the next CMI newsletter! Meanwhile I've been producing short video clips on building construction issues with public service type announcements posted on my Facebook page and YouTube channel "Building Expert". Stay tuned for the launch of my new internet video TV channel online in early 2017!
