This fall, Apple will be updating the Mac operating system to 'High Sierra' (10.13) and introducing iOS 11 for your devices.  Here's what you can do to get ready for these upgrades:
  • Backup. Use Time Machine for your Mac and iCloud for your devices. NEVER perform an update without ensuring you have a recent backup.
  • If you use 3rd party apps (such as Photoshop, MS Office, Quicken/ Quickbooks, etc.), check to see if they'll still be supported. Microsoft has already announced that Office for Mac 2011 will not be supported.
  • Update to current levels in advance. To avoid skipping multiple versions of operating systems, try to update to the latest available versions now. This will vary based on your Mac and device.
  • Be aware that not all apps will be updated for iOS11 when it becomes available. If you upgrade, certain games and apps may not have yet been upgraded by the developer.
