Thanks for Making SummerFest a Success

Our free SummerFest brought in big crowds of vegans and the veggie-curious who were able to taste a huge variety of great tasting vegan food and learn about the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. Festival-goers beat the heat by enjoying amazing vegan foods, shopping, live music and fun for the kids. We hosted nearly 60 vendors and doubled our space from last year to spread out and enjoy an afternoon outdoors.
A special thanks to our vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and members for making this free event possible! We encourage you to patronize our sponsors, including

Are You Getting Enough Omega-3?
|
You may already know that good sources of Omega-3 Fatty Acid ALA include walnuts, chia seeds, and flax seeds, but did you know that vegans could be low in the Omega-3 Fatty Acids DHA and EPA if they're not actively ensuring they eat enough of these foods? The good news is that we can meet all of our Omega-3 needs by eating nuts and seeds and by taking a DHA and EPA supplement that is derived from algae, not from fish.
There are hundreds of thousands of different types of algae throughout the world, including those currently used in plant-based Omega-3 and EPA supplements. Algae takes significantly fewer resources to grow than animal-derived or even other plant-based protein sources. In fact, algae "can produce about seven times the amount of protein as soybeans on the same amount of land." Now, experts say algae is the next "food of the future." Companies, including those currently producing supplements, are already developing algae-based protein powders and snacks.
