Rosa and Linda completed their episode of Cesar 911!

Their episode will air in February or March and we will be having a screening at the Savia Center after it airs.  Cesar will be coming out to speak and answer questions at the screening!  A big THANK YOU to Cesar for training our Rosa!

Meditation Class

taught by Jonathan

Please join our small group for meditation class Wednesdays from 4:30-5:40 pm (prior to the Wednesday ladies group).

Meditation has been clinically proven to reduce stress, lower tension, and help disconnect from past traumas. The goal of the class is to teach these tools so that a person can practice the three C's"- calmness, clarity, and choice.

Three meditation techniques are taught.  Each technique has a different purpose, and with a little practice, these become tools that are available on demand when the moment arises.
One technique allows you to project calmness and goodness, even while being challenged and tested by an emotional person.  Another technique helps you relax and slow down the wild thoughts in your head.  A third technique helps feel purpose and compassion.

Being calm and better understanding events from a non-emotional view allows for better choices and more thoughtful responses to others.  Of course the class is free and everyone, guests, friends, and children are welcomed.

Hello Friends!

We have lots of great events coming up in the next few months.  We have our Clothesline Project in September and our Purple Walk of Strength 5k in October.  Be sure to read through the newsletter to get all the important details.

Clothesline Project

Create a T-Shirt

The Clothesline Project is a nation wide project where people can create their own t-shirt that has meaning to them or a loved one.  Each color represents a different type of abuse that people have encountered and if they survived.

White represents women who died because of violence;

Yellow or beige represents battered or assaulted women;

Red, pink, and orange are for survivors of rape and sexual assault;

Blue and green t-shirts represent survivors of incest and sexual abuse;

 Purple or lavender represents women attacked because of their sexual orientation;

Black is for women attacked for political reasons.

On September 20th, the DVC will be hosting a create a t-shirt event where you can bring your own color t-shirt that has meaning to you and design, create, draw, write, whatever you want on your t-shirt.  This is a chance to break the silence and let your voices be heard.
Then on October 1st, your shirt will be displayed on a clothesline at the College of the Canyons, Mind, Body and Wellness Fair.  Our goal is to raise awareness about domestic violence and other forms of abuse that women face everyday and let everyone know that there is help and support for them.

For more information you can also check out our Events page on Facebook!

We are very excited to be hosting our 3rd Annual Purple Walk of Strength!  The event will be held on Saturday, October 11th and will begin at 8am.

Bring a white shirt, your registration paperwork, friends and family, and be prepared to get purpled!

The walk goes through the College of the Canyons track and trails behind the college.
