"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so the the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Dear St. Paul's,

Now that the Fall season is in full gear, I'm excited to announce that we have three excellent opportunities to study the Scriptures, and to become thoroughly equipped to love God and people more deeply than ever.

First, there is Bill Proctor's excellent study of the last book in the Bible, The Revelation to John.  Bill is the author of over 50 books, so he brings a wealth of experience and research to this examination of perhaps the most challenging New Testament book.  And given all of the questions that people have about the end times and the Second Coming of Jesus, the subject could not be more relevant.  As God says, "don't be anxious about anything", but bring your questions on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. at the Garden Club.

And then yours truly is leading a study of Paul's letter 1 Timothy on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. in the Azalea Lane office.  We have an invigorating and lively discussion of the life and times of Paul's young protégé.  Like all of our studies, this discussion is appropriate for all levels of biblical experience.  My goal is to equip everyone with the basic tools to understand and to apply the Word of God to everyday life.

And finally, I'm thrilled that Lorne Coyle and Tom Fritz will be leading a study of John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress on Monday nights beginning October 19th (see additional details below).  Lorne and Tom are very accomplished, leading studies for many years.  This study is designed to reach out beyond the walls of St. Paul's, and will meet "off campus" at the Fritz home.  The study will focus on the importance and the value of pilgrimage, and will serve as a preparation for what we hope will be a trip to the Holy Land in the Fall of 2016 (additional details below). This study, like all of our studies, is open to all.

Thanks again for joining us in bringing Christ to the world!

Gratefully in Christ,

Pr. Jon

Sunday AM Bible Study
"The Book of Revelation" adult Bible study, led by Bill Proctor, meets each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM. This is an ongoing program and no sign up is necessary.  Bring your Bible.  Please enter the building through the kitchen side door.

Wednesday Night Adult Bible Study
Join Pastor Jon every Wednesday at 6:00 PM for a study on the book of 1 Timothy. The class meets at the church office (664 Azalea Lane - downstairs).  All are welcome.

"Life as a Journey in Pilgrimage"
Join Thomas C. Fritz and D. Lorne Coyle for a nine-week class for Semester One, starting Monday, October 19th, and finishing Monday, December 14th. The class will focus primarily on Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, which is an allegory of life and of the Christian journey through it toward God.  The class will meet each Monday at 7 PM at the Fritzes' home, 940 48th Ave., Vero Beach.

St. Paul's Vero Beach and St. Andrews Gainesville are planning a ten-day pilgrimage to the Holy Land tentatively scheduled for October of 2016.  The trip will be led by Bishop Ron Kuykendall, Pr. Jon Robbins, and D. Lorne Coyle.  There will be availability for up to 40 participants.  Because of Lorne's extensive experience in planning trips of this kind, you can feel confident that everything will be arranged to ensure your safety and comfort.  This is a very exciting opportunity, and we hope that you will pray about joining us on this life-changing journey to the land where Jesus walked.   Please contact Norma in the church office if you are interested and would like additional information as it becomes available.

HEALING WEEKEND WITH PR. JON AT ST. ANDREWS CHURCH

Pastor Sharon Lewis and her team from Amazing Love Healing Ministry will be hosting a healing weekend October 9 & 10 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Gainesville.  This is an opportunity for you to come receive prayer and teaching and also a great opportunity to invite a friend to come.  To date, we have a group of 14 attending and there is room for you!  The conference will be on Friday night and all day Saturday.  Please contact the church office for hotel and other information.

SIMPLE SUPPERS
ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
OCTOBER 11TH - 5:00 PM

The first Simple Supper get-together for dinner, fellowship and organizing will be held at 5:00 PM on October 11th at Dean and Christine Spark's home, 222 N. Carmel Ct., Vero Beach, for all those who are interested.

The purpose of these informal meals is just to get to know each other better. It is OK if you can't be a host, someone else will be glad to do so. Transportation can be arranged. It is OK if you can't always be there. We are very flexible. As the snowbirds return, we will include them. Each group will decide when they want to get together once a month and the host for each month will decide what sort of meal they will enjoy. That makes it sound more like an adventure, which it often is.

Let us know if you want to join in, either by phone to Dean or Christine at 234-2398 or the church office 231-3552 or by writing "simple supper" on the friendship form at church.  We are excited to resume this fellowship ministry.  Watch for further details soon!

SKIMMERS

The Skimmers kicked off the new school year with a cookout at Jaycee Park.  Following the cookout I asked them,  "What book of the bible would you like to study next?"   Their unanimous decision was Revelation.  Our study started last week with the first 8 verses of Chapter 1.  The ending line of verse three  "the  time is near" sparked interesting conversation and questions.   For example:
"That means J esus could come back in 2 minutes or in 2,000 years."  "Where is heaven?" "How will I know how to get there when I die?"  "Do Muslims and other religious groups have their own heaven?" "Will it be dark?"
It should be an interesting journey as we read through the book of Revelation.   Please pray that God will richly bless our meetings and open the children's eyes to the awesome wonders lying within the last book of the Bible.

~ SUNDAY SCHOOL ~

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."    Galatians 5:22-23

For the next several weeks the children will be learning about the nine "fruits" of the spirit.  These lessons will help the children realize that they can bring glory to God by walking in the Spirit and bearing good fruit in their lives.  Watch as we fill the tree with all the fruits.

Good Friends...

What a brilliant summer!  We had so many opportunities to minister to people in our six Crossroads Park Festivals in Charlottesville. They enjoyed our practically non-stop live music, grilled goodies, games, face-painting, balloon animals, chalk drawings and of course lots of good conversation and prayer.  Thankfully the local news also took an interest in us and so we had very positive reporting (and free advertising!) from the Daily Progress (our local newspaper), CBS 19 and NBC 29.  Well spent efforts were made possible by your prayers, financial support from our diocese, and our intrepid Crossroads outreach team of volunteers!

We will be Christ-centered, biblically grounded and Spirit-transforming.  Together we will learn to be the authentic, historic, redemptive and healing community that Jesus has called His church to be.  We will be local and we will be global.

We need your prayers.  We need your support. We are laborers in this harvest.  Maybe you know someone who might want to join with us.  Maybe you want to join with us.  Jesus is building His Church.  Having heard the call from Him to move here and plant a church in Charlottesville, we are more expectant than ever!  Please be in touch.

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest."   Luke 10:2

Expectantly,

"A QUEST FOR PEACE"

Guest Speaker, Gigi Graham, eldest daughter of Billy Graham

Many see Thanksgiving as the most important family holiday of the year.  With this in mind, we don't want anyone to be alone on Thanksgiving.  We hope to have a place for everyone to share a Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.  Our plan is to have someone host, cook a turkey, and have guests bring a traditional side dish to share.  If you would like to celebrate the holiday with other
St. Paul's folks, please let us know.

"Go and make discilpes of all nations."
Matthew 28:19a

St. Paul's mission is "Bringing Christ to the World."   While it may be impossible for everyone of us to participate in an actual mission trip, we can "bring Christ to the world" by participating in programs such as Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child is an annual Christmas initiative coordinated by Samaritan's Purse. Girls and boys in more than 150 countries have experienced the joy of Christmas and heard the Good News of Jesus Christ, thanks to caring people like you who have packed over 100 million shoebox gifts since 1993.  Multitudes of these children have given their hearts to Jesus, have been discipled, and are now ambassadors for Christ in their countries.  Praise God for how He uses these simple gifts to spread the Gospel to the far corners of the earth.

Thanks to your generosity in August we only need a few more school supplies in addition to the following items to fill the shoeboxes:
  • School Supplies - 20 more boxes of crayons, scissors, erasers & glue sticks
  • Non-liquid hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, combs and bar soap
  • Accessories - socks, hats, t-shirts, flip-flops, hair bands, sunglasses etc.
  • Toys - cars, small balls, jump ropes, dolls, stuffed animals
  • Miscellaneous Items - small books, puppets, stickers, small pads of paper, craft supplies, sewing kits, blocks etc.
Please note all items must be small enough to fit in a shoebox size box.
All items may be dropped in the children's area, placed in the marked box at the back of the church or brought to the church office by Sunday, Nov. 8th

Our goal this year is to fill at least 40 shoeboxes.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this children's outreach project.
