Keep Going!

While the calendar says September, we know there's plenty of summer left.

Many of your customers have a long list of projects they want to get completed in the weeks ahead.

Don't slow down on your marketing and sales efforts.  There's plenty of work out there!

Plan Ahead!

It's time to think about getting ready for the busy months for landscape lighting, holiday decorating and yard drainage.   Experienced contractors know fall and winter services take more aggressive marketing efforts to get customers engaged.  Assemble a team and prepare your fall and winter marketing and operational plans.  Don't wait until it's too late to book jobs for the late season months.   And maximize your profits by participating in our early order programs for fall and winter supplies.

Ask us about ways to profitably extend your selling season.  We have proven ideas that can help!

CPS Golf Tournaments

Thanks to everyone who participated in the CPS Colorado and Wyoming Golf Tournaments in August.  This year we had our Wyoming tournament at a new location, Casper Country Club. The winner of that tournament was Mother Nature.  She rained us out!

The Colorado Tournament was held at Fox Hollow Golf Course. Each year we choose two charities to support with the sale of mulligans.  This year we raised $3000 dollars combined for Casper Youth Baseball and Wounded Warriors Family Support.

Check out this video from the Colorado tournament.

The Benefits of Fall Fertilization
by Rob Garcia, Winfield

The question often comes up on what the benefits of fall fertilizer applications are for the turf.   Fertilizer applications during the summer promote mainly top growth while applications made in the fall when night time temperatures are lower is stored in roots and shoots to fuel new root growth.  The days are still bright and sunny so photosynthesis activity is still high and energy produced is stored until the next spring.  The energy that is stored helps the turf grass have better winter survival and promotes better spring green up.    With early spring green up spring applications can be pushed back eliminating dealing with excessive clippings and allowing for the use of fertilizers with more slow release nitrogen eliminating leaching and clippings which decreases mowing requirements.

Fall fertilizers should rely on nitrogen sources that are not broken down by microbial activity for the slow release portion.  Blends with 50% slow-release from sources like U-Flexx or Sulphur coated urea are great choices  and the addition of some potassium will help increase the durability of the turf grass helping the turf withstand the warm dry fall days we have in Colorado. Applications made after October 15th while the turf grass is still green can be made with either straight urea or ammonium sulfate.  One additional benefit of ammonium sulfate being used is that you also get some pH lowering effects that help with our alkaline soils.

Atlantic Water Gardens Pond and Garden Protector
Great All-season Protection!

The Atlantic Pond and Garden Protector is a great way to keep unwanted elements out of your customers' water features - from pets to predators to leaf debris - all year long.

To protect ornamental fish ponds from wading predators like raccoons, herons and egrets, the strong nylon mesh keeps koi and goldfish safe while allowing water plants to thrive, and the black netting is close to invisible at a distance.

For water feature use during the off-season, the Protector keeps autumn leaves out of ponds and fountains, high and dry off the water until the trees are bare. For best results in very cold climates, remove the assembly when the leaves are down and protection is no longer needed.

The Pond and Garden Protector assembles easily, the fiberglass stays locking together to form a domed cross providing strong support. The domed shape of the assembled Protector keeps leaves getting wet and pulling the net below water, letting them blow away instead. The open design of the heavy duty black nylon netting, with ½" by ½" mesh, stops penetration of debris and animals but allows light, rain and snow through, so snow loads are less likely to accumulate and collapse the Protector if it is left on during cold winters.
