Dear Friends of
A Novel
Experience,
September is shaping up to be one of the most exciting times of the year for us at the store--and for our Pike County community. We're doing an incredible satellite show as part of the 14th annual SlowExposures Photography Exhibition. We're teaming up with our local library to welcome Terry Kay to our local library--thanks super librarian Rosemary Bunn! We are celebrating our birthday and going into our 10th year on the Square--now, that's hard to believe! And, could it be that we are being treated to the first whisper of autumn in the early morning air? This year, we are doing "Banned Books Week" at the end of the month. We have said goodbye to our famous swimming pool of great beach reads but we're looking forward to that industriousness that accompanies the start of a new school year and ushers in a host of new titles to enjoy. And, that's not all! We welcome our newest sales associate Shaunasee Holder--she has graciously volunteered to be the first staff member for our tongue-in-cheek feature "
The Book You Didn't Know You Wanted"--see below! (If you have a title and want to apply, come on in the store!).
Our gallery show this month is Don Norris' "Southern Vernacular"--it's perfect for SlowE's theme "The Rural South". Don hails from Mississippi and will be in residence during the "Four Slow Days" of the show. Meet him at our famous Artist Brunch Reception on Saturday, September 17 from 9-11 am. It's guaranteed to be a fabulous get together with folks from all over the country gathering in Pike County for the weekend. Visit
www.slowexposures.org for the whole story and come on down! And, we'll be open on Sunday, September 18th from 10 till 4 that weekend...
Banned Book Week is celebrated nationwide the last week of September. Karen has been zealously combing the list for the best-of-the-best. You won't believe the titles that have claimed that distinction over the years--we're setting up a special display!
And, we're in deep denial about the impending departure of sales associate Jewell Coleman. She's heading west to Texas to begin the next stage of her life--we're only letting her go because she has promised to return to the neighborhood someday--please stop by and wish her well. We'll miss you, Jewell. Thanks for teaching Shaunasee how to make the Christmas book tree!
And, remember to come by and tell us what you've been reading!
