"Music
Coaches" |
SOUND ROOTS
NEWS SEPTEMBER
2010
|
|
In a time when the term "Coach"
is widely recognized beyond the stadiums and courts of American
sports youth, and reaches out to encompass everything from
parenting to entrepreneurship, we think it's time to coin a new
brand of coach: The music coach.
Our instructors are so much more than simply teachers. They are
guides who help students tap into their creative power, counselors
who empower students to push past doubt and fear, friends who
listen to students dreams and day to day struggles, and coaches to
help students create goals and give them strategies to be
successful at meeting them.
We are proud that our teachers foster tremendous long lasting
relationships with their students, and that those relationships are
sometimes carried into their personal lives at birthday parties and
barbecues and events. This is how we know we're making a
difference in our community and in the lives of those who are
entrusting their musical education to Sound Roots.
We are all family.
If you have experienced this connection, we encourage you to share
your experience with other people you know who might benefit from a
Sound Roots "Music Coach" in their lives.
Warmly,
The Sound Roots Family

MEET Jason!
|

Jason grew up in Kansas and
started playing in clubs at the ripe age of 15; by the time he was
19 he was performing 7 nights a week, and already considering
himself a blue-collar kind of musician.
He went on to graduate Cum Laude with a B.M. in Guitar Performance
at Wichita State University, receiving Theory Honors under Dr.
Walter Mays. This was particularly worthwhile to Basgall, as Mays
had been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, in Musical Composition,
on multiple occasions.
Following college, Basgall worked heavily in the studio, producing
commercials, jingles and karaoke tracks, and was once even sampled
on a rap album. He got a gig as an instructor at Senseny Music in
Wichita, teaching around 50 students a week for over a year, then
moved on to do a bit of production work in Nashville. Prior to
moving to Oregon in 2004, Basgall was asked how many bands he had
played in and was not surprised to learn it was over 40!
In Portland, Basgall taught guitar at Musiqal PDX until the retail
music center closed down in early 2010. That's when Sound Roots
were lucky to welcome him into their school; Jason now teaches
guitar for students at every level of expertise, and instructs drum
at the beginning level. He is always excited to meet new students,
so get in touch with the music school today to get signed up for
lessons with him!
If you're interested in finding out more about Jason and how he
might become your Music Coach, give us a call today! 503

School's
Back - But is your Music Program? |
We
know these times are tough and schools are having to make some
major cutbacks to meet budget deadlines and restrictions.
Unfortunately, for many schools, this means music and art get the
ax! If you find your music program at school lacking, check out
our group classes and individual music lessons at
Sound Roots to supplement your education! If you are in the PTA,
recommend our Sound Roots On-Site program
which brings music instruction directly to your child's
school!
