Support Groups
Just a reminder that we expanded our reach this year and now have support groups in Anderson, East Chicago, Richmond.  Also, the Munster support group moved to Schererville and West Lafayette moved to Lafayette. We hope you'll attend a support group soon. Lupus support groups provide an opportunity to spend time with others impacted by the disease. Sharing experiences, methods of coping and insights into living with lupus helps members develop coping strategies to reduce the stress that often accompanies living with a chronic illness. Volunteers Raise over $7,000 for Lupus!
"Krazy Horse Krew" Rides and Rocks Purple for Lupus

One of the biggest challenges for the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter is raising awareness of this chronic illness in communities around our state. But with the help and teamwork of the people affected by lupus, amazing things can happen.

The Krazy Horse Krew of Kokomo is a small group of motorcycle enthusiasts consisting of family and friends and has been involved in a few small fundraising and memorial rides benefitting various charities. After discovering that several of their members' lives have been affected by lupus, the Krazy Horse Krew decided to use their beloved pastime to raise funds and awareness for lupus.

Beginning in 2012, they organized the "Rockin' Purple for Lupus" Motorcycle Ride to fill the void of lupus awareness in their community and raise money for the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter. After a successful first year with 63 bikes participating, "Rockin' Purple for Lupus" has become an annual event, generating over $7,000 for the Indiana Chapter of the LFA and pulling in riders and sponsors from all over the state.

It is because of the camaraderie and dedication of groups like The Krazy Horse Krew that the struggles of living with lupus are being recognized in communities around Indiana. By giving generously - not only of their donations, but also of their time and effort - The Krazy Horse Krew has become the shining example of what small groups of people can do with big hearts and creativity.

"Without the support of our sponsors, riders, and each other, we wouldn't have been able to achieve the success that we have had so far," says Stacy Weller of The Krazy Horse Krew, "Though our mission is going well and we have raised more awareness than we thought we could, our mission is far from over. We hope we can continue our success for many years to come."

Thank you, from all of us at the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter, for your efforts to further spread the word about lupus.
