September is here along with many of my favorite things.....perfect weather with warm fall days and crisp, cool nights, the start of football season, the beautiful changing leaves, and my birthday! There's another reason I love September, I get to celebrate my anniversary of becoming a massage therapist!
Massaging is my favorite thing!
At 15 years old, I had a reaction to a medication and ended up with a pseudo-tumor cerebrum, a build up of spinal fluid that had collected in my spinal cord and behind my eye. I needed 5 spinal taps in 3 days to drain the fluid which left me in a ton of pain and on bed rest for weeks. Once back to school and dance classes, my back hurt and my flexibility and muscles had diminished. My mom, who had never had a massage, offered to take me to her health club for a massage.  I had no idea what to expect, but was willing to try! I left that massage knowing I had fallen in love. Not only did I love receiving the massage and vowed to have them regularly forevermore, I also became instantly intrigued in massage as a career choice. And lucky for me, the college that was known as the very best in the country at that time was right here in my state.
18 years ago this month, I graduated from the intense and

infamous Boulder College of Massage Therapy as a Certified Massage Therapist! I was young and a bit naive about what a career in massage would actually look like, but I was ambitious, energetic and eager to start the job of my dreams. I always planned to work in a spa but after a one day interview at a fancy-dancy spa downtown, I realized spa massage is not for me....too impersonal, monotonous and rushed. Plus I hated the music and the polo and khaki pant uniform! So, I expanded my search, interviewing at a variety of places before settling on a small clinic working with a variety of clientele as well as doing office work, like scheduling, marketing and attending leads groups. The clinic closed 2 years later when the owner moved, and I split my time as an office manager for a chiropractor and a homeopathic doctor and doing massage for friends, family members and clients from my home. I never thought I'd work from home or own a business but it just felt right. I had run 3 successful businesses, so why not try my own?! Tranquil Massage was officially created 15 years ago and remains one of the best decisions I've ever made!
I love my job. I love my clients. I love massage! Each day brings a mix of people and situations and every hour is something different for me to focus on. I love meeting new people and having them experience a Tranquil Massage for the first time, and I also love working with clients that I've seen every couple weeks for 15 years. I love the smile on the wrinkled face when a client comes out of the room to leave. I love when we figure out the cause of a persistent neck ache, and even more so when we can relieve it once and for all! I love the challenge of finding the right exercise or stretch that could help, as well as pointing out a posture or movement that could be making the problem worse. I love massaging pregnant women....and I really, really love teaching parents how to massage their babies! I love when I get to massage siblings and parents of my clients. I love making people feel better, physically and emotionally.
I am so blessed to have found this work and I can't imagine anything else I would rather do.  Thank you for being a part of this dream come true. I hope that you feel my passion, my gratitude and my appreciation in every massage I give.
