Network Updates

On Monday August 12, 2013 The Network visited Renz Center which is located in Elgin, IL. It was very interesting hearing all the work that the Promotoras de Salud are doing in the Elgin community, to educate specially women on diverse health topics such as AIDS. We also shared with them about the work that the network is doing, and one of most recent successes is the acceptance of the CHW Curriculum at the South Suburban College. Elgin Promotoras show interest in taking the basic CHW Certification but they would also like the CHW Curriculum to be imparted at one of their local colleges.

On Wednesday, August 07, 2013 the Network introduced the new CHW program to South Suburban College students which will be implemented in January 2014. I believe that all the time and hard work that everyone contributed and dedicated to the development of the CHW Curriculum it's finally paying off.

A special thank to all the hard working Curriculum/Certification Committee.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Congress and Several States Proclaim September 12 to Remember the Thousands of Children, Families and Caregivers Touched by Childhood Cancer

Facts about Children's Cancer

Each year, approximately 13,500 parents will hear the words "your child has cancer."  Across all ages, ethnic groups and socio-economics, this disease remains the number one cause of death by disease in children.  Despite major advances - from an overall survival rate of 10 percent just forty years ago to nearly 80 percent today, for many rare cancers, the survival rate is much lower.  Furthermore, the number of diagnosed cases annually has not declined in nearly 20 years.
