Tembua - The Precision Language Solution
"The smaller our world becomes, the more important it is that we understand each other."
--Patricia May, CEO & President of Tembua

Phonemes are the sounds necessary to speak any language

During the first months of life, babies imitate the phonemes they hear, and the rest of the phonemes gradually fade
As we grow into adulthood, it takes special training not just to make sounds that aren't included in our native language but even to hear them.

Fricatives, Clicks and Implosives: In the Phonetics Lab

I sat with 20 other students in the phonetics lab, trying desperately to make the sounds the professor was demonstrating. To put it mildly, my articulators-as I learned to call my tongue, lip, teeth and uvula-did not cooperate. At least, not at first.

Fall here, spring there

We recently celebrated the atumnal equinox, the border between summer and fall in the Northern Hemishere. It is well known that the sun's rays fall directly on the equator on the equinox and then, as we go into winter, the sun rises lower in the sky and the days shorten.

That's basic science but we rarely think about how the seasons are flipped in the Southern Hemisphere. They have just experienced the vernal or spring equinox and are heading into their summer season.

I enjoy messaging with our linguists south of the equator, in Australia for example, when the snow is deep here in Minneesota and they're suffering from a heat wave.

Something to remember-Australian English, just like British English, has significant differences in vocabulary and usage when compared to American English. Tembua's linguists can localize a text for any of these locations so that spelling and word choice make the text sound locally written.
