Tech Tip: Installing Side Discharge Nozzles
Tips from Schenck Process Service Technicians to ensure your equipment continues to run accurately and efficiently.

Side discharge nozzles are used for feeding free flowing materials They eliminate the "pulsing" effect caused in straight nozzles at low RPMs and create a "waterfall" effect at the discharge point.

Side discharge nozzles should be installed in the 9-11 o'clock position when you are looking at the front of the feeder.  When installing a vinyl dust elbow, the offset of the dust elbow needs to match up with the side discharge of the nozzle. If the dust elbow is not properly lined up, the outlet of the nozzle will be partially blocked and the helix may twist.

Depending on the material, the maximum helix speed sh ould be limited to 200 RPMs. You should always limit the maximum RPMs on the smaller helixes.

Kaizen Teams Improve Processes

Kaizen is a strategy in which employees at all levels of a company work together to achieve improvements to the manufacturing process. Schenck Process plans multiple Kaizen events throughout the year in the shop and office areas. Each event improves the company's production and promotes lean manufacturing concepts.

In November, three Kaizen teams were assembled in Whitewater to focus on Service, Feeder Assembly and Shipping areas. Each team spent one week planning and implementing changes in each area.

"Lean manufacturing is a systematic method for eliminating waste, or non-value added effort, in our factories. It is a growth strategy providing capacity to focus on efforts our customers will find valuable," said Chad Lorensen, Executive Director of Operations, in Whitewater.

Schenck Process Contributes to Project Warmth

In November, Schenck Process employees donated coats and blankets to the charity Project Warmth, located in Kansas City.

Project Warmth is an initiative to collect new and gently used coats and blankets as well as cash donations to help people in need during extreme weather. Project Warmth aims to ensure lives are not lost to frigid cold or sweltering heat.
