On Christmas Eve morning, the Paulist Fathers announced that Fr. Dave O'Brien had passed away at the age of 88 following an extended period of illness. A Paulist Father since 1956, Fr. Dave served as Director of the Newman Center here in Austin from September 1962 to September 1968, founding the current University Catholic Center, and as Pastor at St. Austin from September 1986 to August 1990.

A wake will be held at St. Thomas More Newman Center at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio tonight,Thursday, January 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. Fr. O'Brien's funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., this Saturday, January 7, at the Newman Center. Paulist Fr. Eric Andrews, president of the Paulist community, will serve as the principal celebrant. Paulist Fr. Vinny McKiernan will preach the homily.
Burial will follow at a date to be announced in the Paulist Fathers section of the St. Thomas the Apostle Church Cemetery in Oak Ridge, NJ.
St. Austin Catholic Parish and the University Catholic Center will remember Fr. O'Brien with a Memorial Mass and reception planned for the morning of Sat., Jan. 28. Please watch our bulletin, website and Facebook account for more details.
