Master Drummer Jordan Benissan Performs June 1st, 6:30 PM 

Please join us as we welcome master drummer Jordan Benissan on June 1st at 6:30PM. Jordan is a member of the Ewe People. He was introduced to music and dance at an early age through ceremonies and rituals. He received his traditional music training from several West African master drummers.

 

Jordan has taught and performed for all levels, from elementary school through college level, and teaches at Colby College. Some of his performances include an opening show for the West African drummer Babatunde Olatunji, a performance for a national NAACP Conference and performances for the Mayo Clinic's Multicultural Program. Benissan has performed traditional African drumming and Highlife music with master drummer Obo Addy at Colby College, and with the Portland Symphony orchestra.

 

This is certain to be a wonderful performance. Light refreshments will be served.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi -- June 8th --  A documentary on 85-year-old sushi master Jiro Ono, his renowned Tokyo restaurant, and his relationship with his son and eventual heir, Yoshikazu.

Chef -- June 15th -- A chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family. 

The Lunchbox  -- June 22nd --  A mistaken delivery in Mumbai's famously efficient lunchbox delivery system connects a young housewife to an older man in the dusk of his life as they build a fantasy world together through notes in the lunchbox.

Big Night -- June 29th -- A failing Italian restaurant run by two brothers gambles on one special night to try to save the business.
