Severe Weather Tips
We have been getting a lot of calls from our customers over the last few days with temperatures dropping we thought we would share 3 services/products that can help you comfortable in your homes during this severe weather.
Maintenance Plan
DO NOT TOUCH THAT THERMOSTAT!!!  Seriously, don't touch it.   Many customers are calling stating that their units are not shutting off and they are afraid they are going to overheat or not properly functioning. HVAC systems are typically designed to work in temperatures ranges of 10 - 90 degrees F.  If you feel your heater is working overtime and never seems to shut off...you are absolutely correct.  In severe cold temperatures like we are experiencing, your HVAC system is getting a major workout trying to keep up.  Don't touch that dial because eventually it will catch up to the temperature that you are looking to achieve.

Solutions:  Become a Burkholder's HVAC Maintenance Customer.  Our maintenance customers are our TOP PRIORITY customers.  If your system does happen to malfunction in this weather we give our maintenance customers priority in appointments.  As a maintenance customer we will inspect and clean your unit each year ensuring top efficiency and proper functionality, offer a 15% discount on parts, and NEVER charge over-time  or severe weather fees.

Freeze Alarm Dialer
Poorly Insulated House
+ Cold Temperatures
     Frozen Pipes
In the event you find that you are without water in some area(s) of your house your pipes may be frozen.  Check areas that may be vulnerable to cold air - basements, crawl spaces, garages, or any unheated spaces connected to your home.  Locate water lines in these areas and eliminate cold air near them by insulating walls, and pipes, repairing broken windows and if possible insulating these windows (single pane) especially if they show signs of frost collection.  Any opportunity to eliminate drafts in these areas will help in retaining the heat.
If pipe bursts or freezes - find the main water shut-off valve and immediately shut-off.  At this point you will need to contact a expert, we recommend Elek Plumbing:  610-432-7001.

If you have pipes that are vulnerable to freezing allow a small trickle of water to run overnight to keep pipes from freezing - the cost of the water is minimal to the cost of the broken pipe.

Solutions:  Freeze Alarm Dialer - this alarm will automatically dial any telephone number when the temperature inside a home, cabin, or business drops below 45 degrees F.  Allowing you to keep an eye on your pipes and Benjamin's in your pocket.

Starting at $460.00 installed.

Carbon Monoxide Dectector
Carbon Monoxide is a odorless, dangerous gas that is created from fossil fuels such as: gas or oil appliances like a furnace, clothes dryer, range, oven, water heater, or space heaters that are not working properly.  The following conditions can cause CO levels to rise quickly:
* Appliance malfunction, i.e. the heat exchanger on your furnace cracks
* Vent, flue, or chimney is blocked by debris or even snow
* Fireplace, wood burning stove, charcoal grill or other source of burning material is not properly vented
* Vehicle is left running in an attached garage and carbon monoxide seeps into the house
* Several appliances running at the same time and competing for limited fresh air can be a cause of carbon monoxide buildup. This condition can result in incomplete combustion and produce CO, even if all appliances are in good working condition.

Solutions:  Install CO detectors on each floor of your home, placing additional CO detectors near any gas or oil appliance.
We also recommend having gas and oil burning appliances inspected and cleaned ANNUALLY ensuring their safety and efficiency.
