Safe, Authentic, Engaging
June 2018
Families and friends of Shabazz graduates are invited to our graduation ceremony on June 7 from 6-9 pm in the wood gym.
Tickets are not required.

All graduates who are walking in the ceremony should arrive no later than 5:30 pm. Grads will need this time to pick up their caps and their signature Shabazz r a i n b o w t a s s e l s , pose for a class photo, and line up for the ceremony. Students do not wear graduation gowns. They may choose their own attire. Seniors, please be on time!

FYI the gym can get quite warm. Bottled water on ice will be provided, but you may want to skip the plastic and bring your own chilly thermos.
AROUND SHABAZZ
Shabazz Says Farewell to Retirees
Shabazz thanks Cross Categorical Teacher and Instructional Coach Lori Bennet, Social Studies Teacher Katie Jones, and School Counselor and Academic and Career Plan Coordinator Anita Simansky, and wishes them well on their retirement. Combined, they represent over 50 years of Shabazz involvement. They will all be missed, but we know that we will see them again.

Lori, Katie, and Anita wish to thank all of you for many rewarding years of working with Shabazz students, staff, and families.

Shabazz Student Shares Youth Apprenticeship Experience
Dana Nelson shared her experience as a Youth Apprenticeship student during the Youth Apprenticeship Banquet on May 24. Dana apprenticed at Illumina of Madison. She also expressed her appreciation to her Illumina mentors. Great job, Dana!
Art Gallery Show
On May 30 Shabazz celebrated the end of quarter Gallery Show. Staff and students were able to enjoy the beautiful artwork of the printmaking, animation, watercolor, and anatomy for artists classes as well as the work of PGT. The independent work of Toby Louther, Cassandra Frey, and Blue Campbell was also featured. Congratulations and thank you to all students and teacher Rachel Schramm for the impressive show.
Shabazz's Mutual Admiration Society
Shabazz staff members were treated to a delicious (and huge) appreciation luncheon during Teacher Appreciation Week last month. It was a great way to begin wrapping up the school year.

We appreciate our staff and our staff appreciates our supportive Shabazz families.

Thank you to all who brought in such wonderful and creative dishes for us to enjoy. It means a lot to the staff to know that they are appreciated!

Summer school classes will be held June 18 - July 27 (with no classes on July 4) from 8 am to noon Monday-Friday.
