Jewish Values Coaching Havurah
Make Every Day More Meaningful - Find More Meaning in the Everyday
Life Coaching is a holistic process that recognizes the connectivity between personal, professional, spiritual, and physical health. A Havurah is a Jewish fellowship that gathers to discuss, experience, and share Jewish rituals, practices, and values. The Coaching Havurah is a 10-month program of reflection and personal growth in a faith-based group setting that blends coaching strategies and life skills with the wisdom of Jewish tradition. This program will be facilitated by Rabbi Konigsburg and Stacey Zackin, Phd, MSW, PCC.

Program Dates: The First Monday of the month: March 5, April 2, May 7, June 4, (summer break), September 3, October 1, November 5, December 3, 2018, January 7 and February 4, 2019

Application Process:  
 Applications due on February 23, 2018
$360 for BSBI members
$720 for 10-month program
This program needs a minimum of five participants and will be capped at 15 people.

Shabbat Across America
Friday, March 9, 2018
Jews across the U.S. and Canada will come together in celebration of Shabbat. Join us at BSBI for a Kabbalat Shabbat service at 6:00 pm. Our students in grades 2 – 7 will participate in leading prayers, followed by a Kosher Shabbat dinner at 6:45 pm. Be a participant in this opportunity to share Shabbat with thousands of Jews across North America!

Traditional rituals, prayers, and contemporary discussion led by Rabbi Konigsburg. This year’s seder will be held in memory of Judy Krutt who, together with her husband Bernie, helped arrange the BSBI seder for many years.

Annual George and Lillian Sandals Memorial Dinner and Lecture
March 20th, 6:00 pm
Beth Sholom B’nai Israel, BSBI Sisterhood, and the Manchester Hadassah present our Annual George and Lillian Sandals Memorial Dinner and Lecture.  Our guest speaker will be Dr. Barry Holtz, Theodore and Florence Baumritter Professor of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary and author of Rabbi Akiva: Sage of the Talmud . Why should we care about Akiva, this figure from 2000 years ago? Come listen to Dr. Holtz and learn the answer.

Purim Services & Megillah Reading

Put on your best costume and join us for a Ma’ariv service and full Megillah reading on Wednesday, February 28th at 6pm. Please note: There will be no 7:00 pm service that evening.

You also have the option of joining us for an quick (but complete) morning Megillah reading at 8:00 am! Costumes optional, just come as you are!

Workshops in Synagogue Music – Cantillation: Chanting Sacred Text
February 27, March 6, &13
6:00 pm
The theory and practice of cantillation, the chanted melodies for Torah, Haftarah, and megillot. This class will cover the basics of Torah cantillation and will continue into March. All levels are welcome to attend. Contact Cantor Bolts at cantor@myshul.org for more information.

There will be two sessions on March 6th. The first will be held at the regular time, the second make up session will take place at 7:30 pm after Minyan.
Sisterhood Adventure Walk
February 25th, 9:30-11:00 AM
We are continuing our “Walking and Adventuring” on the last Sunday of each month. Our next one will be on Sunday, February 25th,  9:30 - 11:00 am. We will meet in the BSBI parking lot at 9:30 am, decide which of the local beautiful trails to explore and carpool there. We will be back about 11:00 am.
Brotherhood in Action Breakfast
February 25th, East Center St. Masonic Temple
February 25 is the Brotherhood In Action Breakfast, which will be held at the East Center St. Masonic Temple. Brotherhood supports this both financially and with person-power. This annual event raises funds to support area families of children with life-altering diseases or disabilities. In the past, the BSBI community has strongly supported this effort through member contributions and attendance at the breakfast. 
School Registration Opens March 1st!
Registration forms will be available soon for the 2018-2019 School Year.

Note that there will be an early bird registration deadline, so get your forms in early! The sooner we get them, the better we can plan for our next school year!
New Teen Program at BSBI!
Journeys, the new teen program at BSBI, will be kicking off in Fall 2018! The program will combine self-directed Jewish learning, social action, and community-building among Jewish teens. Registration opens March 1. Please contact Cantor Bolts at cantor@myshul.org for more details.
Brotherhood Breakfast Meeting and Men's Health Panel
March 4th, 9:30-11:30 am
After morning minyan at 9 am, the BSBI Brotherhood will hold their monthly breakfast meeting at 9:30 am. At 10:30, join Dr. Matt Friedman and Dr. Gordon Brodie who will be leading a panel on men's health.

Hadassah/Sisterhood Book Club
March 12, 7:30 pm
The Hadassah/Sisterhood book club will meet in the Silverstein Center on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 7:30. The book under discussion will be Snow in August by Pete Hamill. Multiple copies are available at Mary Cheney Library in the reference room. Please plan to join us for a discussion of this book and to help choose books for future discussions.

Torah Study Shabbat
April 20th & 22nd
Our guest scholar will be Dr. Pamela Nadell, the Patrick Clendenen Chair in Women's and Gender History and Director of the Jewish Studies Program at American University in Washington, DC. Dr. Nadell’s subject for Shabbat will be “Two Worlds of America’s Jewish Women.” 

To make your reservation for the Friday evening dinner send your check, payable to  BSBI Sisterhood , to Marilyn Lassow, 102 Hollister Street, Manchester, CT 06042 by April 13th. Specify whether your choice is chicken or vegetarian dinner.  The cost is $22.00 for adults, $10.00 for youths under 18. Also, please let us know if you intend to come for the luncheon. There is no cost for it but we would like to make sure that we have enough for everybody.

Pesach Project Reminder
By now you should have received your personal log in information for the Pesach Project. The link to the log in page can be found on the front of www.myshul.org . Please make sure to make your selections no later than March 21st .
Women’s League North Atlantic Region (NAR) Conference
April 15th, 8:30 am - 5:15 pm
Temple Israel, 125 Pond Street, Sharon, MA
The theme for the day is “ Ma Tovu - Feeling Good about Yourself: How Good It Is to Be Healthy.” There are two ways to attend. The whole day option is 8:30 am to 5:15 pm, and includes a light breakfast, lunch, and dessert reception, and Chai Tea will be served. There will be speakers, a panel, workshops on women’s health, a choral group, and more. The Afternoon-only option, is from 3:00 pm to 5:15 pm. There will be a Mincha/Rosh Chodesh Service, NAR board installation, and the presentation of the Woman of Distinction awards. Judy Meyer will be leading Mincha at 3:30 pm and Rima Riedel will lead workshops on movement and on the history of women’s makeup in the last century from 1:30 - 3:15 pm.

Community Announcements
MACC Charities is OUT  of the following food items in the pantry; they go out as fast as they get them. The Pantry serves over 25 families a day and go upwards of 37+ mid month to the end of the month when SNAP funds are low or run out. Thank you to anyone who can help. Please bring these emergency donations directly to MACC.

Help a child learn to read!
Become a Preschool PALS Reading Mentor!
Each year, more than 1 in 3 American children starts kindergarten without the language skills they need in order to learn to read. You can help by becoming a Preschool Pals Reading Mentor! Attend a training session, then select a 30-minute-per-week time slot to read to a preschooler in Bloomfield or Hartford. You can meet during the school day or after school. Anyone age 12 or older can be a mentor. Spring mentorships last 10 weeks; six-week summer mentorships are also available.
