The Ten Commandments/Revelation at Sinai, one of the most well-known parts of the entire Bible, is found in Parashat Yitro/Jethro (named after Moses' father-in-law, who was the priest of Midian). The parasha also includes Yitro's advice to Moses about the importance of delegating his workload and a promise - if we guard the Covenant, we will be a kingdom of priests and a holy people, God's special treasure.
One of the verses that I most love is this:
God says (reminding our ancestors of the Exodus from Egypt), "I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you back to Me."
Think about the image of being lifted up and carried ever so lovingly by the Holy One, an image of power, strength and great love, the feeling of being totally supported, allowing us to soar. How our perspectives might change! How much more might we see!
A kavannah for
Shabbat Yitro
Adonai, please lift me up and carry me in my time of need and allow my spirit to soar! Help me to see the preciousness in all of Your creation, that I may be an emissary for spreading goodness in Your world.
See you next Friday (the 24th) for Kabbalat Shabbat at 7:30 p.m. at Pardes.
