Did You Know?
Tea is classified as white, green, or wu-long based on both the processing method and also the variety of the tea plant that is used. The true white tea for example, comes from only 2-3 tea plant varieties and is the least processed of all the teas.
Spotlight: Sweet Leaf Tea
This past month in the store, our new Sweet Leaf Tea has been very popular, so we thought it might be a good idea to profile the tea this month so that you can learn more about it!
Recently, we introduced a whole new line of naturally caffeine free teas including Wild Honeysuckle, Orange Blossom, Wild Chrysanthemum, and Sweet Leaf Tea. We did this because we wanted to offer a caffeine free option, but we didn't want to sacrifice the flavor and antioxidant levels of our teas by decaffinating them (in order to decaffinate teas you have to chemically alter them either using ethyl acetate or carbon dioxide).
Sweet Leaf Tea (Rubus suavissimus) is a leaf that is naturally caffeine free. This leaf comes from the rose bush family and contains a natural sweetner called Rubusoside. You can used sweet tea leaves as a drink by themselves or as a great natural sweetner for your other teas! Simply mix a few of the rolled tea leaves with the tea that you are drinking for a nice, natural sweet taste.
