The Pilot

A newsletter of the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association       November 2016
A word from Walker,

Wow! What an incredible time we had together in our Annual Meeting a couple weeks back. There are so many people to thank. First, I am so appreciative for the incredible hospitality and assistance of Pastor Eddie Honeycutt, Pastor T Welch, Ed Locke and the wonderful folks at Stanleyville FBC. Second, I am grateful for the hard work of Karen Taylor, Shelley Vestal and a cadre of dedicated volunteers that enabled us to accomplish a plethora of logistical goals over a short period of time. Third, I am thankful for how Brad Wright did such a great job as our Moderator, making some complicated things more understandable. Finally, I am indebted to Mike Apple, Zach Fleming and Will Watson for adding their talents to the mix in a way that lifted up the name of Jesus and encouraged people to think "What If ..."

Now we need to shift our focus from sharing a vision to executing on that same vision. We have people in place that are excited about doing this. Would you join me in praying for these fine people as they seek to do Kingdom Work through our Association. Despite the huge social and political issues we face as a country, I am very enthusiastic about what 2017 holds in store for the PMBA. Let's put our collective dreams and imaginations to work for the glory of God!

Your fellow servant of Christ,

Walker Armstrong
Interim Director of Missions
Dear PMBA Churches,

God is amazing! I'm overwhelmed by His grace and your generosity! You surprised and blessed my family so much last week at the Annual Meeting when you voted to partner with us as we head to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to multiply disciples, leaders, and churches. I've known for over a decade that the PMBA valued God's Kingdom more than its own and you demonstrated that through stewarding your resources for some very exciting new churches, ministries, and leadership development systems over the next few years! I've personally been involved with 4 different PMBA churches in my last 11 years in Winston-Salem who have shaped me into the Great Commission leader I am today. That investment alone is worth more than I can express in a note. I look forward to seeing you in Calgary with your mission teams and hope you'll sign up to pray for our family, our churches, and our city. We'd love to have you join what God is doing in Calgary at www.christand.city/partner.

Blessings,

Dustin Conner

Give to the Baptist Toy Stores

Help us put smiles on the faces of all the children who come to one of the PMBA Toy Stores!  We need lots and lots of new toys, valued at $10 -- $30 each. We also need stocking stuffers, hygiene items, toboggans and scarves.  If you can help us, please drop your items off at one of  the Toy Store Collection Points below, or you can mail a check to PMBA for the Baptist Toy Stores, PO Box 11843, Winston-Salem, NC 27116-1843.

Christmas will be upon us before we know it! Last year we helped almost 2800 children. This year we hope to help over 3,000.  Parents come to the Baptist Toy Store each year to pick out brand new toys for their children.  The presents are wrapped and made ready for transport.  Parents meet with a counselor and share their prayer concerns and other needs they may have. After the Baptist Toy Stores are all over, we have a team to meet and share the names of those who need a follow-up visit.  Our Baptist Toy Stores are about helping families -- not just with toys -- but sharing the real meaning of Christmas and the Savior that gave us the greatest gift ever given!

Won't you help this year? We need volunteers at each Baptist Toy Store. We need counselors, toy store assistants, desk workers, loaders and gift wrappers.  There is something for everyone!  We can even use teens who are available on one of those days.  If a teen needs Community Services hours, we give out certificates and fill out forms for teens each year.  Contact one of the people listed above or call Karen Taylor at 336-830-8189 or 336-414-0812.

Want to make an end-of-the-year donation?  Make your check payable to PMBA and mark it for the Baptist Toy Stores, and mail to PMBA, PO Box 11843, Winston-Salem, NC  27116.  You can also drop your toys off of one of the churches listed above or drop them off at the PMBA Office, 407 Petree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

Let's celebrate Christ in Christmas this year!
