For several years now, we have been banging the Morgan Twain-Peterson drum. Morgan is the owner and winemaker at Bedrock Wine Company. We believe the work that Morgan is doing is one of the most important stories in California wines. His mission: "to channel the fruit of ancient vines into powerful, elegant, and distinctly Californian wines." Morgan purchased one of the oldest vineyards in Sonoma, the Bedrock Vineyard originally planted in 1854, and replanted in 1888. Morgan believes that old vineyard sites, like the Bedrock Vineyard, are extremely important to the viticultural landscape, not only in Sonoma but across California. He is on a mission to save them.
Morgan is producing some of the finest, most unique, and profound wines in California. His wines have garnered twenty nine 90 plus ratings from the Wine Advocate alone! We are massive supporters of his wines, not only professionally but personally. Bedrock is always represented in my cellar!
Morgan is an ardent supporter of red blends, or blends in general. "Blending grapes, says Twain-Peterson, helped vintners make balanced, all-purpose wines: Petite Sirah had tannin and body; Carignane added aroma and bright acidity; Alicante Bouschet, an intense red color. Zinfandel was usually the predominant one, as it is in Twain-Peterson's fragrant, spicy, savory 2011 Bedrock Heritage red blend from 22 varieties in his vineyard. Unlike most winemakers, who ferment and age each variety separately and blend later, he gestalts a picking date for all and ferments and presses them together." -Elin McCoy, Greatwinenews.com (Please note. We currently have the 2011 Bedrock Heritage wine in stock).
Shebang! is an outstanding introduction to the wine-making style and talent of Morgan. It is deliciously ripe and friendly showing lots of red berries, spice, soft oak, and balancing acidity and tannin. It is going to prove to be a righteous summer barbeque wine. Fleshy and rich without being heavy or sweet. Simply put, this is one of the finest values in California. It would be a shock if there was better one out there.
