Volunteers working together
to wrap Christmas boxes

On December 15th, 2012 Lauren Weaver from Lauren's Way along with community volunteers, youth (ages 5-17) from Master's Academy, and Immanuel Church assembled together and wrapped 150 Christmas Gift Boxes to give to the homeless of Indian River County. An additional 20 children's bags were also donated. Volunteers formed assembly lines; building boxes, followed by placing items such as blankets, deodorant, mosquito repellent, nail clippers and more. Contents were placed in the box with care, wrapped, and personalized to their recipients. Over 4,000 canned goods and  other non-perishable food items were also donated to The Source and The Homeless Family Center to help stock their pantries.

"Ryan and I were amazed that a group of kids could accomplish so much in 6 hours. They worked diligently. We were truly blessed with wonderful volunteers who gave of their time and helped make Lauren's Way a success! We couldn't have done it without them or this community," said Melissa Weaver.

Lauren Weaver's commitment to helping the destitute of Indian River County began when she was only seven years old, now twelve. Her determination to reach out to the indigent over the past five years has affected the way many Indian River County residents have come to understand the meaning of compassion. Lauren's primary focus has been providing direct services to the homeless by funding, preparing, and distributing Christmas gift boxes.

Please keep Lauren in your prayers this Christmas. She will be doing a live interview with Fox News Saturday, December 22, at 4:30 p.m. We, at The Source, believe God has appointed her to be the voice of our homeless community and to one day impact others around the world. This is a great opportunity to minister the true meaning of Christmas (the love and compassion of Christ Jesus). "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Forty plus bicycles were given away on December 8, 2012. A big thank you to our friends at the Rotary Club of Orchid Island.

"We do a bike drive every year and select an agency to contribute to. This year, we wanted to provide transportation for the homeless," said Bonnie Simpson, Club President.
