  * REMINDER*

The Twentynine Palms Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual General Membership Meeting on Friday, May 19th, 6:00PM at the Twentynine Palms Community Services Building located at 74325 Joe Davis Drive, Twentynine Palms.

During this meeting we shall conduct the 2017/2018 Election of the Board of Directors. All voting shall be by ballot.  A ballot box shall remain available in the Chamber Office for ten (10) days after the ballots are mailed to the voting members.  Ballots may be returned by mail or deposited in person.  The Board of Directors is the policy-forming branch of the Chamber. Directors approve the Budget and direct the Chamber's general activities. Ultimately, the Board must assume the responsibility for seeing that all policies are carried out. Directors have a responsibility beyond the parochial interest of their business or professions. They are expected to help formulate policies for the good of the entire community and to act as a representative of the Members in governing the Chamber. In this role it is vital that they seek out the opinion of the Members.

To be eligible to serve as an elected Director, an individual must be the primary or alternate representative of a business or professional Chamber Member. He or she must agree to abide by the terms set forth in the By-Laws, and the Director's agreement, prior to nomination, and have expressed a willingness and capability to serve.

Celebrated Writer/Director teams with Joshua Tree non-profit powerhouse to create Artist Residency for Veterans

When writer/director Charles Evered was a struggling grad student just out of Yale, he didn’t have a place to live.  His parents had passed away, he had no money and was saddled with student loans.  The world-famous playwright Edward Albee came to his rescue.

“I didn’t know where I was going to go.  I was renting a cheap office in the middle of New Jersey and I’d crash there at night.  That’s when I got a call from the Albee Foundation.  I was told they liked the play I had submitted and offered me a residency for one month in Montauk, NY.  I wouldn’t have to worry about where I'd live—at least for awhile, which was a big deal—and Edward himself dropped in and delivered our mail.  He also took the time to offer me advice on playwriting as well, and corresponded with me when I made the move out to Hollywood.  The whole experience was a lifesaver for me, and helped launch my career.”           Read More

This Friday, May 12th - Old School House Lectures with Pat Rimmington, Author, Historian
Theatre 29 is expanding its offering of first class theatrical entertainment and training to include a resident repertory improvisational troupe.   The Twentynine Palms based non-profit Community Theater, the largest and most successful all-volunteer theater organization in the Morongo Basin, continues to build upon recent successes with more experimental and diverse forms of performance.   In addition to their very successful Summer Youth Theater program, the “Theatre 29 Repertory Improvisational Comedy Troupe” is now forming under the direction of Veteran Performer and U.C. Riverside Professor Chris Fleischman.

Improvisation, or improv, is a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue of a game, scene or story are made up in the moment. Often improvisers will take a suggestion from the audience, or draw on some other source of inspiration to get started.   Fleischman graduated from Yucca Valley High School in 2006 with salutatorian honors as an active member of the repertory theater company, received his B.A. in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing (Poetry) and a minor emphasis in Theater,  summa cum laude, from UCLA, and received his M.A. in English from UC Riverside, where he is currently working on his dissertation to complete his doctorate.

The repertory improvisational comedy troupe will perform at select intervals during the Theatre 29 season. Fleischman is seeking to cast a troupe of 8-10 players, ages 18 and older.   Auditions for the troupe are set for 6:00 pm Monday, May 1, 2017 at Theatre 29, 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms. The troupe will be formed on the night of auditions.

Prior to the audition and subsequent formation of the troupe, Theatre 29 will hold two days of workshops, 6:00 pm Tuesday, April 25 and 6:00 pm Thursday, April 27, intended to instruct those interested in improvisation and to give people an idea of the qualities sought prospective troupe members. Live performances (rated PG-13) by the troupe are schedules at Theatre 29 June 10, July 15, August 12, September 23, October 28, November 11, and December 30, 2017. Ticket prices are greatly reduced with General Admission at $10.00, Theatre 29 Season Ticket holders, Military, and Seniors are $7.00 and $5.00 for students with ID.

  For 2017, Theatre 29 will present five Main Stage productions, a Halloween Haunt, a Summer Youth Theater Program, and an exclusive two-week run of a special theatrical event. In addition, new for 2017, Theatre 29 will introduce an Improvisational Theatre troupe under the direction of Chris Fleischman
Next up, the popular Broadway musical Into the Woods will be helmed by artistic director Charles Harvey and musical director Kathryn Ferguson. With a classic story that darkly twists and turns through the worlds of favorite Fairy tales and Children's literature. Into the Woods will run April 28th through May 21st.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber operetta, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat running August 25th through September 17th will bring the St. Joseph's Players of Yucca Valley's artistic director Rebecca Havely along with musical director Analisa Pilecki to Theatre 29.

The very popular season themed Halloween Haunt will continue with Freak Show for October 19th through 31st. Producer Brandon Hazel said the walk-through attraction will be both frightening and disturbing and definitely not for younger children.
  Don't miss the production of "Into The Woods".

 Visit  Theatre 29,   for show schedule.

The 2017 Theatre 29 Summer Youth Theater program is well into the planning stages and staff members are ready for this exciting educational experience in the live arts!

The program will run Monday Through Friday from June 26 through July 30, 2017, (4th of July off) culminating with two performances of “Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr.” set for each day, July 28, 29, 30, 2017. The Youth Theater Program and the performances will all be held at the Theatre 29 building at 73637 Sullivan Road in the City of Twentynine Palms.
