It has been a very busy summer at GSMISTS! As you read on in this issue of Shore Essentials and learn about much of the work that our staff have focused on these past few months, please take a look at
17 New Things for 2017.
Recently, I spent several nights throughout the council conducting listening session with volunteers. I shared information on the current status of our council and listened to concerns. I want to thank all those who came and listened and shared with me.
Here are key takeaways from those sessions:
- Volunteers want to know what is going on, so we as staff and the board need to increase our communication on a more regular basis. I promise to make this happen.
- You want our website to better serve your needs and we are working every day to include more information and make things easier to find and use. For instance, we are moving toward having all forms in fillable PDF format so that you can fill in online, save and email or print.
- I have made clear to staff that you want us to answer our phones, return emails and answer questions - so we have put in place a 24 hour return goal for any phone or email box that does not give you an "out of office" response. We have created a FAQ spreadsheet with frequently asked questions for each of our front desk staff so they can help you with any common questions.
- Volunteers told me they want to hear about the great things that others are doing, so we will try to find ways to bring to you more information on happenings from around the council.
The council has challenges ahead of us but one thing we can do right now is to make sure that we are reaching out and engaging every girl who would like to share in the fun and leadership development that Girl Scouting provides and will help them grow into great adults.
It will make all of us proud for helping them to get there!
