Help Her
Lead Like a G.I.R.L.

Here is a great opportunity to share with your girls!

Girl Scouts has been helping girls take the lead for more than 100 years, and we've taken that legacy to the next level by collaborating with Disney Channel to create a leadership guide that can help all families develop leadership traits and   encourage their girls to be G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, Leaders) ™.

We know leadership isn't about who you are, but what you do. That's why Disney Channel and Elena of Avalor are a perfect match for Girl Scouts as we work to change the conversation around leadership and help girls see that everyone has the potential to lead.

Like your girl, Elena might be young, but as crown princess of Avalor, Elena is learning to be a collaborative, communicative, and confident leader. By following Elena's adventures-and taking on a few of her own-your girl will uncover the leader within herself and feel empowered to help others do the same. Filled with 12 simple but proven tips designed to enhance your girl's critical thinking, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills, it's a must-read for any parent or caregiver looking to give their girl the best.

To learn more, check out the  Leadership Guide.

All Delegates and Alternate Delegates are invited and needed to attend their respective Region meeting per the schedule here

The tentative agenda for Delegates is:

  • Receive an update from a Board of Directors member
  • Give feedback regarding potential change(s) in the Bylaws
  • Participate in a SHORT Delegate training
All registered Adult Girl Scouts are invited to attend their region's meetings. Why attend? Hear and review updates given by the Board of Directors and Mary Charles, Interim CEO; hear and learn about our vision process; and meet volunteers from around your region.

The meetings will include: election of girl delegates, ratification of Service Unit Delegate elections, governance/board update, review of suggested Bylaw changes and property updates. Immediately following the meeting, delegate training will be held for all newly elected delegates.

Calling Girls 14 Years and Older!
If you have a daughter or are a Cadette, Senior or Ambassador Leader, we have an opportunity we want you to share with your girls. Each year we elect two girl delegates from each region of the council. These girl delegates participate in the annual meeting voting and help to determine to direction of the council. The annual meeting will be held on April 22 at Camp Anna Behrens. Interested girls need to submit an application by Monday Oct 31st. The application can be found here.
2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Award
The 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is available to our 5th-12th graders.

This unique youth recognition program, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, has recognized more than 115,000 middle and high school students - including thousands of Girl Scouts - at the local, state and national level for outstanding acts of volunteerism over the past 21 years. Top winners receive a sizable cash award, engraved medallions and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C. for the national awards ceremony in May, 2017.

Girl Scouts can apply online by clicking here. Applications must be submitted by November 8, 2016. We will review applications and select one or more to represent this council in the state-level judging. If you have any questions please call The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards at 877-525-8491.
Product Sales
Fall Product Sales ended on October 23. Download the Fall Sale Calendar here. Delivery will be November 15-18, just in time for holiday giving.  Rewards will be shipped at this same time but will come through UPS or FedEx, depending upon your region and amounts.

Please make sure that all girls and adult members are re-registered for the 2017 Membership season if they wish to participate in either of the Product Sales. Please also remember, before a girl receives a selling packet, the parent/guardian must fill out the Parent Permission form for the troop to keep on file. One form is good for both Fall and Cookie sales.

Online training is still available for the Fall Sale. Please watch this informational video to learn more. Selling Materials may be obtained through your local Service Unit Product Sale Manager or the Council office.

Check out the new Gift of Caring Program this year for Fall Sales and Cookies. All donations stay at your local level with girls distributing the items to their choice of "Hometown Heroes." We ask that the girls work with their Service Unit to coordinate a designated site, and we would love to see pictures of the girls donating!

Online Cookie Training will be available the first week of November and it will be recorded for anytime viewing. In-person training will be November 7
th Grand Rapids, November 8th in Muskegon and November 9th in Traverse City. Locations will be announced soon but please save the date if you plan on attending. Service Unit and Troop Product Sale Managers are all welcome to attend.
As local United Way employee giving campaigns are kicking off in communities throughout the GSMISTS service areas, please be sure to check with your employer and see if your company is participating and whether you have the opportunity to designate donations to Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore. We appreciate your support!
