I was contacted by a resident regarding a car break in at the Forest Preserve. It takes less than a minute to break a car window, unlock the door, and remove items left inside.
|
|
Keep vehicle windows closed and doors locked at all times.
Activate your car alarm.
Always remove your ignition keys.
Never leave your vehicle running.
Before entering your vehicle, scan the surrounding area, and always check the interior and the floor and rear seat areas.
|
|
Prior to arriving at your destination, lock valuables in the trunk or glove box, hide them completely out of sight, or take them with you.
A wallet or purse hidden under a newspaper or floor mat does not fool a criminal.
Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t broadcast your movements when hiding valuables.

When voters go to the polls in November, they will see a proposed amendment to the Illinois State Constitution on the ballot. The amendment will ask voters if all revenues from various transportation-related taxes and fees should only be spent on transportation projects and expenses. If approved, the amendment calls for putting transportation revenue in a “lockbox” that can only be used for transportation purposes. This would include highway construction and repair, mass transit, enforcing traffic laws, and other transportation expenses such as paying off debt on transportation projects. While protecting against the diversion of transportation funds for other purposes, the proposed constitutional amendment does not provide any new capital funding for transportation in Illinois. It is estimated that Illinois must spend an additional $43 billion on transportation infrastructure in the next ten years to bring highways and bridges into good condition.
Ballot Language:
The proposed amendment adds a new section to the Revenue Article of the Illinois Constitution. The proposed amendment provides that no moneys derived from taxes, fees, excises, or license taxes, relating to registration, titles, operation, or use of vehicles or public highways, roads, streets, bridges, mass transit, intercity passenger rail, ports, or airports, or motor fuels, including bond proceeds, shall be expended for other than costs of administrating laws related to vehicles and transportation, costs for construction, reconstruction, maintenance, repair, and betterment of public highways, roads, streets, bridges, mass transit, intercity passenger rail, ports, airports, or other forms of transportation, and other statutory highway purposes, including the State or local share to match federal aid highway funds. You are asked to decide whether the proposed amendment should become part of the Illinois Constitution.
