This month of July marks the official kick off of the Texas season, and we are ready for it, but are you? While shrimp remains the most consumed seafood in the United States, approximately 90 percent of consumers have no idea where the shrimp they eat are from! This in part may be why about 85-90 percent of the shrimp consumed in our country is actually imported farm raised shrimp.
Coming from the background of shrimping for a living, the Groomer family's heart goes out to our Texas Gulf shrimpers. It's a hard, back-breaking way to make a living, and our local guys are constantly having to compete against cheaper, tasteless, farmed shrimp from overseas. It's become such a struggle that many have simply moved on from what has been a legacy to many families.
This is why every season, Groomer's makes the commitment to pay our Shrimpers fair pricing on their product, and to try and move as much Texas Gulf Shrimp as we can, at a minimum mark up to keep our guys in business.
It's of the utmost importance that we keep this vital part of our economy and Texas heritage afloat, and you can be the biggest aid in this effort. Every pound of Texas Gulf shrimp you purchase is directly aiding a Shrimping family and aiding the Texas economy. So be on the look out for great shrimp specials in the following months!
Your taste buds will give you a big thank you too! Texas shrimp are firmer, sweeter, and have a depth of flavor that is unlike shrimp from any other region. With each bite you'll understand why Texas Gulf Shrimp are the preferred shrimp of seafood lovers. So enjoy the summer, eat Texas Shrimp, and buy local!
