Becks Closing Wheel Study. Yetter Poly Spikes Vs. Standard Rubber Closing Wheel
We talk about it a lot, but for good reason. Spike closing wheels pay dividends! Yesterday I traveled to Becks Hybrids in London, OH to meet with Jared Chester to discuss how their closing wheel study was coming along. As we pulled up to the plot you could visibly see differences between spike and rubber closers. As we dug in we performed 2 different stand counts: Yetter Spike Closing Wheels:127 vs. Rubber Wheels: 110 and another count showed Yetter:142 vs Rubber at 134. So already in the number of seeds emerged it is obvious which wheel to choose. So We took it a step further and we dug the roots of each and those pictures are shown above. Notice the curling and twisting effect where the rubber was ran, this is from the presence of sidewall compaction, which is not present where the Yetter Wheel broke down that sidewall compaction. We will continue to follow this study through harvest and a video will be coming soon!
