Entrepreneurship major & minor programs growing!

Dear ,

It appears that colleges and universities are increasingly adding degrees, majors, concentrations, and minors in entrepreneurship!  This trend is a reflection of our current economy in which the number of entrepreneurs starting businesses has been on the rise for the past several years. Consistent with this trend, Sigma Nu Tau has also grown steadily since it began chartering chapters in 2011.  There are now approximately 1375 Sigma Nu tau members in 23 chapters, which are located in 14 states and the District of Columbia!

In January 2017, the Sigma Nu Tau board voted to change its constitution to allow schools offering an entrepreneurship minor to petition to establish a Sigma Nu Tau chapter if the minor includes 15 credits of strictly entrepreneurship courses.  So if your school offers an entrepreneurship major, study option, concentration, or minor, please consider starting a Sigma Nu Tau chapter!  If you act quickly, we can still schedule your charter presentation ceremony this semester.  Please visit our newly designed website to find out how to start a chapter, to download forms, and to read about the benefits of membership.

We take great pride in offering our chapters and members greater value every year.  The deadline has just passed for applying for one of four $1250 scholarships in the 1st Annual Sigma Nu Tau Scholarship Program. Judging will take place over the next 6 weeks, scholarship winners will be announced by November 17, 2017, and scholarships will be awarded by December 2017.  The purpose of the program is to foster and recognize academic excellence in entrepreneurship.  Applicants must be a student member of Sigma Nu Tau with at least one semester of studies remaining after the fall 2017 semester, and they must maintain the Sigma Nu Tau membership GPA requirement of 3.2 for undergrads and 3.5 for graduate students. Selection criteria include: (1) demonstration of excellence and initiative involving principled entrepreneurship; involvement and promotion of the entrepreneurial ecosystem; participation in internship(s) - 50 pts.; (2) demonstration of community involvement - 25 pts.; and (3) demonstration of involvement in chapter activities & building awareness of their school's Sigma Nu Tau chapter - 25 pts.

If you would like to establish a chapter at your university so that you can recognize outstanding students, faculty members, entrepreneurs, and honorary members, please visit our website (SigmaNuTau.org) and check out our Facebook page to learn more about the process. Or give me a call to discuss it!

Wishing you a colorful fall,

Save Contacts with the CamCard App!

As an entrepreneur, you make a lot of contacts at conferences and meetings. It becomes difficult to keep track of all the business cards you receive. You may even lose some of the them. Don't let this happen to you! Use CamCard, which scans your business card, records the contact information including name, phone number, email, title, company and address, and it automatically saves it into your phone or other email accounts. You can also sync data across other devices.

This app is available on the Apple App Store  free and the cost on other mobile phones is $3.26

3 Proven Strategies on Taking Breaks That Will Help You Become More Productive

"Every busy entrepreneur knows you have to take breaks."

1) Structure your breaks. "
Your creativity diminishes when you force yourself to work for long periods."
Helpful Tip: Try to take a five-minute break every 25 minutes.

2) A wandering mind is a productive mind. "
Studies have found that our brain activity actually increases when we let our minds wander. Research also shows that giving your brain time to rest is essential to its ability to carry out key mental processes, such as processing memories, identifying solutions and maintaining one's sense of ethics."
Helpful Tip: Try to spend your breaks doing nothing, and avoid the temptations to scroll through social media or run quick errands.

3) Synchronize your social breaks.
"Breaks can be the perfect opportunity to bond with your coworkers. In addition to strengthening your relationships, talking to your coworkers can improve your well-being and job satisfaction, and increase productivity."
Helpful Tip: If possible, try to schedule your breaks at the same times as your coworkers.
