Middle School Boat Race Makes a Splash

The eighth-grade annual sailboat race is a spectacle of one-of-a-kind crafts made of popsicle sticks, styrofoam, aluminum foil, masking tape, straws, dowels, milk cartons, paper, plastic, and more.

It's hands-on fun that puts what children have been learning about buoyancy, water displacement, force, and motion into practice.
Field Trips & Final Projects Consider Use of Resources

The AP Environmental Science students took their final field trip last week--to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, where they presented a diverse array of projects with the common theme of resource use.

They also baked chocolate chip cookies in solar ovens, and checked out the pollinator garden they have been putting in this spring.

Students leave Jim Panzer's Environmental Physics class not only with a heightened awareness of environmental issues but also with concrete ways they can ensure that their carbon footprint is a small one.

Their final project was to design a passive solar home.
