Have you ever thought about the irony of Jesus prophesying his own coming? That's right. Jesus, the one the Gospel of John calls the "Word made flesh to live among us" is telling them to be watchful, to be ready, because they have no idea when the Savior will come again. That's something only God knows, and it's in God's time. It seems very backward, and you can imagine the questions Jesus must have gotten after this prophetic moment.

"But wait ... you are here now. What about right now?"

I am sure someone asked, "Aren't you the one we've been waiting for?"

Slash Post Office Is Open

You may use the free Slash Postal Service to pass along Christmas greetings to fellow members and regular visitors to our church. A mailbox will be placed in the back of the sanctuary where you can leave your Christmas Cards. Please bring your cards on December 3rd and 10th. The cards will be sorted by Norma Miller and Kelly Benson's class and will be available for pick up during worship services this month.

We encourage you to make a gift to the Christmas Offering to benefit the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Virginia with t he money you save on postage this Christmas.

Lifeline Screening coming to Slash in February

Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings will be in our community on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Slash Christian Church. Ultrasound screenings to identify risk factors for Cardiovascular disease include; Carotid Artery (plaque buildup-a leading cause of stroke), Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (an enlargement or weak area in the main blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body), Peripheral Arterial Disease (hardening of the arteries in the legs), a Heart Rhythm Screening (an EKG to detect Atrial Fibrillation-irregular heartbeat) and an Osteoporosis Risk Assessment for men and women. Being proactive about your health by knowing your risks helps you and your doctor address problems early.
